Russians in Finland

Post by Julichka » Tue Aug 07, 2007 3:23 pm

I was just wondering if in this forum there are any Russians who are living in Finland.

Is it possible to get some job where the Russian language is required ? maybe some Russian-Finnish companies or something like that?

I got a friend who's Russian by origin, but he's lived here since he was a teenager... but he works for a shipping company that deals with shipping to and from Russia, probably since he's fluent in Russian (and Finnish).
Get in there...

Julya, if you speak Russian+Finnish, you will find a job. English would be a plus as well.

More than 25 000 Russians in Finland at the moment. Many of them probably also on this forum. Try this link for other useful information about Russians living in Finland: http://www.stat.fi.

I can almost double that figure ;)
http://www.vaestorekisterikeskus.fi => taskutieto
"residents by mother tongue" says 42.000+
I'd say more "there" of a figure, rather than "by passport" or by "country of origin"

I am Russian too. Did I help? :) What about the job... I don't know... But I think Finnish is required in that kind of jobs where Russian is required. I personally arrived to the country already having permanent job where neither Finnish nor Russian were required. But that is specific IT case.
But my wife currently cares of the one year old kid and she will need a job one day later as well as you. Let's see if she will have luck to get a job...

Just about every municipality has a place called Työväenopisto, and those places offer all kinds and levels of language courses (evening courses, they are adults, and it is a hobby), Russian included. There would not be courses if there were no students.

But my friend also speaks Finnish, so she can explain grammar in Finnish. BTW, I remember she was the most dedicated Finnish-student I have ever met.

Russian Speakers with English/Finnish should never be out of work around here..IF they are Finnish. !! Really many schools teach Russian, some even teach ALL subjects apart from Finnish in Russian.

Sounds strange I know but good old prejudice works everywhere. Recently 15 top jobs going for 3 companies. Need Fluent Russian, Finnish and English preferred. Think they gave them to Russians ??? A poor Russian speaking, unqualified Finn is always preferred over a qualified fluent foreigner. Sad but true.

Come east, every shop needs a Russian speaker as they account for 30% trade at weekends.
I do not need to know you will attend my Funeral. I would rather you call just to say Hi !!
