Christning Gowns

Post by Sara » Mon Nov 19, 2007 6:05 pm

Has anyone seen any Christning gowns in the shops? (Hel, Espoo, Vantaa).

Ive seen some in Prisma (by chance) but they were awful :( I know Bobo in Myyrmanni used to have them but the shop shut so Im going to try and get to the one in Sello (assuming its still there!).

I had seen a few Finnish web sites but I wasnt impressed. Maybe Im too picky

We used the one that mil wore when she was a baby and then our ds's name was embroidered on it with the names of all the others who had worn it. I know that doesn't help you, but maybe there is one in your dh's family that you could use.

Hi Sara,

If I remember rightly Stockmann in Helsinki have them in a glass cabinet near the little water feature with the fish in on the 4th floor in the babies dept. Of course knowing Stockmann you will pay A LOT for one but if you are considering more children then it may be worth getting a nice one.

Hope this helps..... :D

The bigger shops tend to have more plain gowns, since that is what is most usually used here. But there are also a lot of smaller shops with more elaborate christening gowns, do a search for "kastemekko" (for instance by using Google Image).

Thanks CH, I had looked at them on the net yesterday but didnt see anything I had liked.

They seem to be plain cotton with a nasty frill or then tacky lace. We'll have to try Stockmann at the weekend. :D

Sara I was just browsing Xmas pressies on amazon UK and noticed they have a massive new baby-wear section. I plugged christening robes into the search engine and came up with this:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_ss_by? ... .y=0&Go=Go

and there were also tons of accessories such as little silk shoes :D and more.

Yes, shame. I was looking at boots in the footwear section and I could zoom in on nearly all the pics there. Maybe it is something to do with "white on white": I guess the contrast etc is not very good. But it gives a reasonable idea of value for money so you can compare with Stockmann.

Thanks all! We got one in Bobo, Sello in the end. Its gorgeous cream satin, simple but classic. :D Stockmann and Sokos were the same that Prisma had in stock.
