..a fairly wasted night of around 4 hours of researching
In case anyone else out there also has had this problem, I have PowerDVD on one machine and Cineplayer on the other, and WMP11 seems to have killed off the codecs on both of them.
So, if your DVD player, or CD player doesnt seem to work anymore, google 'codec pack xp' and download it...its free.
WMP11 should have downloaded the codec's automatically...but it wasn't really in the mood for it
pants.
Window Media Player 11 killed my DVD sound...

..hmm, that one is a slow opener..
..well just fixed the DVD player on the old Dell, the the answer is (5 hours after starting this marathon)...the graphics driver
..I rolled back to the previous driver, now PowerDVD works and we're all whistling dixy
..and that, dear chaps, was Monday night. But its the dark months, so anything is excusable..
