CHEAP Snow Pants for SKIING

Post by porcher » Wed Dec 05, 2007 6:53 pm

Anybody know where I can buy pants for snow that can give me enough warmth and that can be used for skiing?? A friend of mine told me I can buy at supermarket like for 5-20 EUR per pant, he calls it an UNDERVIR. I don't know what that is.

Any suggestions? He told me that Sports shops are really overpriced.

Thanks

I have found ski-pants in Salo (Antilla, groud floor) with 30e, it was some kinda offer, dunno if it is still available. You just have to wander around supermarkets, I love to do it, whenever i've got the chance.

Downhill skiing or cross-country skiing? Southern Finland (-5°c) or Lapland (-30°c)?

Your friend is talking about UNDERWEAR, that is longjohns. But those won't be sufficient for downhill skiing, as you need wind resistance and warmth.

Try one of the cheaper sport stores, eg Stadium and Budget Sport.

Thanks. I will be going to Lapland. My friend mentioned that this is worn outside the jeans and not inside that is why I am a little confused.

Where is Antilla?

Firstly, when you go skiing, you wear: underwear (=longjohns) and wind-resistant padded skiing pants. NO JEANS.

Secondly, the question is not where is Anttila, but where are you? We can't tell where you can find Anttila unless you tell us where you are.

Thanks for a great tip, I live here in ESPOO, places like Iso Omena and Sello are accessible to me. So where can I buy these longjohns and skiing pants (cheap) not too pricery pants, cause I am not into extreme sports anyway.

Well actually this is going to be my first time to be going on skiing, so i guess downhill would be more appropriate.

Are there any gears for rent, maybe that would be more ideal than buying one.

Well go to either Iso Omena or Sello and find Anttila, Prisma, Stadium, Citymarket, Intersport or Sportia and you'll find plenty of options (cheap ones too). Tarjoustalo sometimes has good stuff as well.

Well, there was:

http://www.kalsari-vuokra.fi

But they went out of business before they opened.

Really. What you need to do is figure out what you are going to do in Lapland, but you don't need a bunch of fancy stuff to do it. Is there an UFF used clothing shop in Espoo? They may have all kinds of winter wear for a fraction of the price that you would pay new. I mean it is not like you're starting a skiing career on this trip, so why dump a bunch of money into stuff that you may never use again.

Buy 2nd hand.

Thanks again. Yea your right. But I think I already saw what I need. I found them in Prisma, and the sales lady doesnt understand what longjohns were until I really explained to her what it was.

i found some cheap ski pants there around 30EUR i think...the kind that is anti wind resistant.

I am still not familiar with the technicality of the winter clothing wear here in Finland.

Above: Thermal + Cotton + Fleece jacket + antiwind antisnow jacket.
below: long johns and i dont know whats next.

As mentioned jeans is really not good for skiing, but longjohns and antiwiind pants, can they stand the cold in LAPLAND? is it enough?

They may if you are doing cross country. You are in constant movement, no time to freeze. But downhill, no. The pants have to be thicker. Go to any Intersport and check out. BTW, sports stores usually lower their prices a couple of days before Christmas even though they don´t advertise it till after Christmas.

And it is way faster to learn cross country than downhill. And faster to learn skis than snowboard.
