Finland the European US?
Finland the European US?
Hello,
my name is Tabitha and I am a student journalism in Holland. Next year I am going to Finland for a few weeks to make journalistic products about this country. At the moment I am researching for interesting topics for Dutch people. I have two questions:
1. In what I have found, Finland could be called the "European US", the buildings, the short offcial existence of the country, weapons can be used freely. Is that true?
2. About the weapons, where can I find what the law says about that?
Thank you all for your help!
Tabitha

The buildings? Which ones you mean? Church from middleages nearby here in Messukylä or one of the castles (more like fortress I guess) around?Tabitha wrote:Hello,

Weapons are not used freely. When outside you have to carry them in a suitable container and actually have some business to carry them if inquired.
"Just wanted to take my shotgun for a walk" does not cut it.
Getting weapons is also lengthy procedure. Requiring either hunting lisence or shooting club membership before police even thinks of giving you right to purchase a weapon. No permit to purchase, no gun from store. After that you have to take them to police to see (after purchase) so they can verify it is gun you got purchase permit for.

Well, let’s see... both nations are fond of salmiak, and I hear you prefer subtitling your foreign-language tv shows, too. That’s two mutually interesting topics, already...Tabitha wrote:my name is Tabitha and I am a student journalism in Holland. The buildings? Similar to US? :-o (This is about as high-rise as it gets here...)Tabitha wrote:1. In what I have found, Finland could be called the "European US", the buildings
As far as independence goes, the US has been around a bit longer...Tabitha wrote:the short offcial existence of the country
Heavens, no. (Whatever “freely” is supposed to mean.)Tabitha wrote:weapons can be used freely. Is that true?
You can’t, but the relevant laws are Ampuma-aselaki (English translation), Ampuma-aseasetus, and perhaps Metsästyslaki (English translation)Tabitha wrote:2. About the weapons, where can I find what the law says about that?

I think the whole idea came from the fact that there's plenty of American chains here like KFC, Taco Bell, Burger King, Starbucks, Walmart, Target, etc and cars are really cheap and so is gas and plenty of American food items readily available, not to mention the right wing political system...
Get in there...
