NZ to Finland
Hello I’m an 18 male from New Zealand.
I have fallen in love with a Finnish girl who will one day marry.
I will be heading over to Helsinki Finland in December 2008.
Only being 18 I have very little experience or qualifications so am unsure how I am going to survive in Finland.
Finnish is a hard language to learn but have started trying to learn as fast as I can.
At this point I can only stay for three months because I am unsure if I am going to study or work and so unsure what permit I would need.
This site has been very beneficial to me so thank you .
If anyone can help me with any information it would be much appreciated
Thank you

To get a long-term visa for Finland you will need to either be married to a Finnish citizen (or able to prove two or more years of relationship), to have a job in Finland (not very easy to fix from outside Finland and without knowing the language), or get accepted as a student at a Finnish university.I am unsure if I am going to study or work and so unsure what permit I would need.
No one can decide these things for you, but it seems to me that your only option, and best option, would be to come here as a student. If you are happy in Finland, you put all effort on learning Finnish and networking. This may lead to a job, and that would hopefully allow you to stay on.
There are no school fees atm in Finland, but you have to have money to eat& pay rent, and you are very naive if you think you can get any kind of part-time job to finance your food/rent as a student. At least at the start of your studies.
During your three months here, think carefully about your options, and see if you think you will be happy in Finland.
Hope all this helps,
good luck!

i just want to give you my experience
when i was 18 i was so much in love with this girl, i thought i will literally climb the himalayas to marry her...she was from nepal, then i thought i will convert to buddism to please her parents......now 3 score years, i sit and laugh at the first magical moments of first love......reality check happens somewhere down the line, when she finds a more charming guy, when you go head over heels on the next blond or brunette.......
Now i just take the pill
so i do not fall into these pits.......of love or infatuation....

Now i just take the pill

..ok, so you've got nothing to lose, at worst it could be a learning experience.Only being 18 I have very little experience or qualifications so am unsure how I am going to survive in Finland
Here's some ideas. Read Richard Branson's biography. Learn some Finnish. Listen to BBC Business daily podcaste for more ideas. Save up around 10k euro to put down on a start-up. Be prepared to lose it all.
And don't pack up your room back home in case you need it again.
If Maui can fish up an island and live on it, then maybe a bit of his lucky blood runs in your veins.
