Greetings,
I'm a graduate student planning on starting an undergraduate study at the Finish Academy of Fine Arts in Helsinki (hopefully this year). As a newcomer to Finland I wonder if anyone can answer a few questions (I did go through the -read this first- thingie but I am hoping for some more detailed answers).
1. On the kuva site there's a recommendation to have around 500-600 euros for a month of living in Helsinki. How realistic is that sum for a student? Can it cover let's say daily transportation food and rent for a month? (as I read there, admission will be decided after a one-month introductory course in late spring, right now I'm focusing on that).
2. How much does is rent around Helsinki for various types of appartments (single flat, 1-2-3 rooms?)?
3. I'm a computer professional (even though freshly graduated I have several years of programming experience - worked throughout my studies) and by the time I get there I hope to have some basic understanding of finnish. How easy is to find a job in the field? (stuff like senior web programmer or junior java developer?) What are some good sites to start looking?
Thanks!

If you had read the previous posts, you would have found answers to your questions. However, here's my answer to you:Austerus wrote:Greetings,

1. Well, you can survive with 600 euros if: a) your rent isn't higher than 300 euros b) you cycle to school c) you don't go out much. However, I'd say aim for a budget of at least 800 euros.
2. Rent in Helsinki for a studio is 450-500 euros, 1 bedroom (+living room) is 600-800. Shared flats (in finnish solu) are around 150 (HOAS)-350 (private) euros. Plus, you pay for electricity and water (water is usually 10-15 euros a month/person). Information on HOAS flats you can find at their website or from this forum.
3. First, see the Job section in this forum. The go and see websites such as http://www.mol.fi and http://www.monster.fi.
