weather forecasts

Post by smoo » Thu Jan 24, 2008 2:42 pm

I know there are some really useful online weather forecast facilities for the Helsinki area. The Helsinki testbed allows me to decide on the best time to step out of the door to avoid rain and snow, as you can see the precipitation patterns as they move across the area on a 10min basis. Also, the general forecast on the FMI page gives me the general outlook for the next day or two and the overall pattern for the day. What I can't find however is anything inbetween. Say if it's raining in the morning and I want to know whether it's likely to clear up in the afternoon, or whether the weather is likely to be better tomorrow in the first part of the day or later on. Have I just not found the right page yet?

Yup, I was planning to cycle into the town center at about 11-12 today. Checked the testbed and could see this huge orange front of snow bearing down from the west, with the edge just about to touch where I was... jumped on the bike and pedaled as fast as I could, the first flakes were just starting when I arrived...

All towns should have a Helsinki testbed equivalent.

Political correctness is the belief that it's possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.
