godmother

Post by canea » Sun Feb 10, 2008 3:03 am

Good evening,
My Finnish friend has asked me to become the godmother of her kids. Honoured and very happy about it I accepted. Since we never discussed about this subject together and I don’t live in Finland I am wondering if with your help we could disclose the godmother figure in the Finnish society. Also how is the ceremony usually organized? Asking my friend would be the easiest thing to do but I just would like to do my part and get ready for this important event.
Thank you in advance to all of you who will take the time to answer this post. Kind regards, Canea.

We had a baptizing / godparent thread some time ago. You might want to take a look.

There are a few events where the God parents are traditionally invited; baptism, conformation (age 15 or so) and graduation from high school. For baptism follow the link above, the other, bring a present (money).
If you want to do more, it's up to you. (birthday card/presents, Xmas presents etc)

No, money is for the times when the kid already needs/wants his/her own money (confirmation, graduation). For babtism present check the thread Jukka gave.
