Hey... so many problems in one time...

this evening I felt a bit sick - so now I have some temperature. I dont know how much, but I feel that I have some. And I feel very weak..
I would have to go to work tommorow, but as I am officially employed, do I have a right not to go to work? For how many days then, without a prescription from a doctor?

And now wat is the situation with going to some doctor?

I have never been and I dont know anything about it. Now, officially I am a permanent resident and still waiting for a KELA card. What are my rights?
Please tell me everything, I am afraid if this is what I feel now is not an easy thing, then I should go to see a doctor...

Please, help...

call your boss in the morning and ask what's the policy in the company.

depends on Full tie or part time or temp..
but do as mcowboy states..
and also book a Dr appointment as some companies ask for Dr. Certificate when you call in sick even for a day!!

Okay... Where is the place - I mean some clinic/hospital , I should go? Maybe you know some website where I could get some information. I tell you, I just dont know what rights do I have and where to go what to do in order to see a doctor? Do I have to registrate somehwere too??

Well it depends if your employer has made the deal with a clinic or uses the city clinic. Then the city clinic depends where you live at. But your employer should (have) explain all this to you if they use someplace or you need to go to the guessing centre.

Actually, they didn't tell me anything about any clinics..so i think they didn't make any deal..is that possible? Or DID they HAVE to make it?

I am currently living in Vallila, close to Sturenkatu and Hameentie.. Helsinki.
and what did you mean by 'guessing centre'? this is some word I dont really understand...

so where would be the first closest (or wherever it is) city clinic?

It's (arvauskeskus) what Finns call the health center (terveyskeskus) because of supposed shoddy treatment.

You can find out the addresses of most city services of any Finnish town by just looking at their website, which is always

so if you go to http://www.helsinki.fi, you find a number of links to a number of services, among others the list of clinics. There seems to be one in the area where you live:

I don't know how it works and if it is a "walk-in clinic", but you could just call them and ask if you could pop over today.

Isn't it that if you just have trivial flu and don't really need to see a doctor, just to get same paper to present at work after you are back from your 1-2 days sick leave - then a nurse at a terveyskeskus is authorized to give you some sort of paper for that? I think so.

By the wy, you don't need to have any "deals" to use public medical services. neither you need to have the KELA card itself. Being registered "in the system" is sufficient.

so, yes, just call your terveyskeskus i.e. the nearest one to where you live.

In my experience, this depends very much on where you work (don't know if the collective agreements have anything to do with this or if it's the individual workplace who decides that) .. in my cosy public sector job I don't need to present any paper at all if I'm sick for less than three days, only if it drags on for longer do I need some "offical confirmation" that I've been ill. Other people I know who work in blue-collar jobs need to go in person to the doctor the same day in order to be allowed three days leave (which means travelling through the city with fever to see the company's doctor that same day).

So I think it's always best to call and ask...

It's not you who needs the deals, but your employer has most of the time some deals with private medical care providers (such as Medivire, Pulssi etc) for their employees' health care. You can also go to the municipal centres, but I think if your sickness has an impact on your capacity to work, it's preferable (or compulsory, I don't know) to see the company's doctors/nurses.

same here, I work in private.

hm, we don't have private medical care so honestly I didn't know about preferences.

from my understanding of workers rights, u can phone in and get a day to 2 off with u'r supervisior's approval, more than 3 days u need a paper from the health nurse or a doctor.

since i was in similar position and u need to see a doctor, call up your local health center , if urgent go to the päivystys...(on call emergency)....

good luck, a good employer..do not want a sick employer making mistakes on the job!!
