If you stayed in Jyväskylä for longer than only for a visit you'd have noticed that 6€ for a Pizza is on the upper limit there... Among all places, I found Salsa Orchidea not *that* special to take anyone I care for there. Jyväskylä, being full of students, the place is packed with pizza and/or kebap restaurants for little money.

To me it seems a mystery why Salsa Orchidea is so popular. As much of a mystery as why do people see Pizza as traditional Italian food. Or even as Italian food as such.

Oops, I was not very positive in this post

I *know* it is Italian in its origin, but that does not make it a traditional food. Ok, maybe traditional for a region, but it's not a typical Italian food. You hardly find Pizza on a list on any Italian restaurant in Italy, except it is frequently visited by tourists.

When you liked the size and the dough of the Pizza in Salsa Orkidea, walk a few blocks up the Kauppakatu, closer to the University there's Pizzeria Maria. The free load of Salad (and coffee or tea) is sort of standard in Pizza places in Jyväskylä. And note: there are two Marias, one is in the Yliopistonkatu next to the Kauppatori, the other is in Kauppakatu next to the Yliopisto. Confusing, isn't it? Take the one on the upper end of Kauppakatu.

Salsa Orkidea is the place one goes when one is too hungry to walk all the way up to Maria :ochesey:

Maria used to be my favourite place. The Pizzas are huge, too, I started to believe that Pizzas in Finland just are so big. Until I moved away from Jyväskylä... What other places did you try?

When you go to places that are visited almost exclusively by locals, pizza hardly is on the list of an Italian restaurant.

I once oerheard a discussion between the Italian waiter and two Finnish guest in the restaurant Piccola Roma in Lahti, a place which used to be good, bud lately there are rumours around saying it is going down the drain for some obscure reason. So, the discussion started after the guests studies the menu list, asking the waiter "don't you have pizza here??" The (italian) waiter friendly but firmly replied: "Ei, meillä on vain aitoa italialaista ruokaa!" (no, we only have genuine italian food)
