People do not become more irritable as they grow old - they simply stop making the effort to avoid annoying others.

you also need health insurance if you are a non-eu citizen.

read http://www.migri.fi => it always has the most up-to-date information.
Unfortunately because Finland has
a) "free" education
b) schengen in the EU
Theres a lot of problems of "certain countries" people making all kinds of problems. Like I personally know one Nigerian student I coached in, he is a genuine one, but now they just arrested 10 Nigerians for faking passports and student recorsds for having a bridge into the country.
Personally - I think Nigerians and Romanians should form an association "Against our own countrymen" for the bad press they get.
I always meet the people in person. So I kow them so I can give "my word" as Finns usually read the newspaper.

So, Mr.... what is your problem against Romanians? Don't we have the right to breathe because of your prejudices? I will be a future student in Finland and i thought that you people are more open-minded. As i can well see...i was wrong. Fortunately, i have the hope that not all are like you otherwise we would be suffocated with your immature thinking. Leave your prejudices home and please take up a more mature attitude. Because of some people who make troubles, don't put an etiquette to all the nation.

You are about to get even angrier when you arrive. Maybe you need to accept this and relax. As was quite clear, I think, from Hanks post, he has nothing against Romanians or other people, but Romanians have quite a bad reputation in Finland at the moment. That is all he is saying. You should maybe read his post again?A very angry Romanian student

Now I am offended - I'm a Finn! What are you implying?DraculcuCoarne wrote:I will be a future student in Finland and i thought that you people are more open-minded. As i can well see...i was wrong.

Nah... of course you're welcome. Just please do read Hank's message again.
Can't resist this, though

And what is your problem? Short sighted or short tempered?DraculcuCoarne wrote:... because of your prejudices? ...... i thought that you people are more open-minded. As i can well see...i was wrong.....otherwise we would be suffocated with your immature thinking. ...take up a more mature attitude.

That was not a normal reaction to a realistic (and if you read between the lines, even helpful) post.

Now I probably know personally more Romanians than a given average native, but they will also agree Romanians have an imago problem to battle against.
In Turku on the west coast, the police warned people about the Romanian beggars through the media, and advised against inviting them into one’s home.Fortunately, i have the hope that not all are like you
If they are unlike me and only read the newspapers you will have a tough time getting a flat.

Re: international students study permit
All my teachers saw the message where you call us gipsy.Thank you for that. I see you hate gipsies too. But there is no need to generalize because there are wiked and good gipsies. We always tend to see the darker side of things.
To say smth. about the hungry student...well these are the effects of 45 years of communism during which Romania decreased a lot unfortunately. People then had to stay nights and days in endless queues for some food and the students who raised against the communist system were tortured and finally killed in the prisons without anybody to care. Our society did not spoil us and the results you see today are due to the hardships of the system we were forced to endure. The Romanians who survived this system split in two categories: the beggers, murderers etc. and the honest people who try to defy this distorsioned image about Romania and promovate the good values (and trust me we have such things).
As my opinion about Finns after this hasn't changed at all. You were extermely lucky that you did not have to endure such system and the results can be seen in your society. I have been studying Finnish language and culture for some years and i have studied already at some Finnish universities. I am totally disappointed by the Mr. who called me gipsy because while being in Finland i met only nice and kind people with whom i was able to work. I prefer to keep my image about finns as i took it from the universities i have studied at and from my husband who is a Finn, and it is the most wonderful man i have ever met. Studying cultures and cutural diversities for so many years i came in contact with all kind of people and i learned to take the best of them and accept them for who they are. Every nation has its good and bad parts, if you learn to accept them as they are and take their best then you can say you understand and talk about them.
Best wishes.

I don't think anyone has doubted thatDraculcuCoarne wrote:Romania and promovate the good values (and trust me we have such things).

But where exactly did someone call you a gipsy, may I ask? (I agree with you, gipsies can be good or bad as much as anyone else, but I can't help wondering whether I've lost my glasses)
Re: international students study permit
Yeah, and the bad examples make the headlines, and therefore create a bias in our perception. But there is no need to generalize because there are wiked and good gipsies. We always tend to see the darker side of things.
If you cannot determine by sight (or phone) if someone is good or bad, you follow the general feeling.

Re: international students study permit
No,dear, you have not lost your glasses. The message was deleted before...it said i would be received like a gipsy king or smth like that. Maybe the one who posted realized that it is too exaggerated. I 've been in Finland before and as i said i met only positive attitudes. I have no connection with the beggers there. I come to your beautiful country regarding a research based project on finnish folkloristics. I need some materials which i can find only in finnish libraries.
