Citymarket in Jumbo has an American Food Section

Post by ilikepeanutbutter » Tue Mar 04, 2008 3:22 am

I don't know if this has been posted before, but I'll post anyways :D lol.

Near the candy section in the Citymarket in Jumbo there is alot of American treats on an end of an aisle. It says the "ultimate comfort, ultimate luxury" with a US flag.

They have Reese's Cups, York patties, Poptarts in all flavors (no chocolate fudge, dangit), toffee popcorn, A&W rootbeer, BBQ sauce, peanut butter, Magic Shell, marshmallows, etc. (That's all I can think of now). They have alittle freezer next to it full of cheesecake.

Just incase anyone has to get their fix. And yes the Reese's Cups are good...I've tried a couple to say the least

Not the same at all. This thread mentions a specific Citymarket. I've never seen those items in my local CM, so it's nice to know which one has it. Thanks, Kat!

Well there's another thread too... it talks about K-Supermarket Kamppi and K-Supermarket Tammisto and Iso Omena...

Once when my son was about 7, when we were living in the States, I brought Pop Tarts home for the first time.

We put one in the microwave and almost immediately it started burning in the middle, like it was filled with some flammable substance.

Do Pop Tarts generally do this? We didn't try it again.

Last month my 9 year old daughter put a mug of milk in the microwave to heat it up for hot chocolate and learned what happens when you microwave a spoon (she had inadvertedly left in the mug).

"Daddy, there's sparks coming out of the cup."

Microwaves seemed somehow safer than stovetops or regular ovens, but not so much anymore.

I'd never put a Pop Tart in the microwave. They are made for toasting.

Well, it was the first and last time we ever had those vile things in the house.

I was hoping the City market out here would get those products. I usually shop across the way at Prisma. Time to switch. And of course I love Pop Tarts, my folks wouldn't let them in the house but that was my breakfast and dinner when I was living on my own. Good thing I learned how to cook since then.

Yep, my kids had the same reaction when I bought some from Stockmann last year. "Is this food mum?" Ours were mint Pop Tarts, so they were green and looked, from the outside, vaguely something like the Apollo astronauts, might've eaten on their way to the moon. We didn't eat them and neither did the birds.

There is an American section in CM Iso-Omena. Some of it is displayed between the nappies and the fruit 'n' veg and some is closer to the fruit 'n' veg on the end of one of the main aisles and then there's some more near the fish counter. I remember marshmallows and root beer, peanut butter and stuff in plastic bottles. And the Ben and Jerry's is down with the ice cream.

I was given to understand that all US packaging carried clear, concise instructions, to avoid legal action by the cerebrally challenged when they maim themselves on household items or goods... like the mythical Superman cape with the warning "does not enable actual flight".

Microwaves heat molecules with hydrogen bonds, i.e. water, or other fluids. Pop tarts contain a tiny amount of jam at the centre which is intended to go a bit runny when the pastry is toasted (cooked from the outside inwards). Trying to cook it the other way round i.e. to nuke it from the inside outwards probably wasn't a bright idea, the water would have quickly boiled off and left a very small amount of burnt jam trying to escape from a pale pastry case.

You did toast them, right?

I occasionally pick up a pack in England ... IIRC apple and cinnamon, and blueberry varieties are rather nice with a glass of milk as a quick breakfast.

Jumbo CM has had that section for a while now. The box of cheesecake samplers is very nice, though pricey, but makes a good treat. And its all pre-sliced so you can just take out one piece at a time

Yes. We followed the instructions. But the smell was bad, the colour was bad, the texture was bad and they didn't even look like food. I only bought them because everyone on here raves about them and I was curious. :ohno:
