Private English teacher in Tampere

Post by Chiugate » Mon Mar 10, 2008 2:48 pm

Hello all!

I'm a private Finnish teacher in Tampere. I keep getting requests to teach English to Finns. I don't think I'm ready for that, as I don't really know the English grammar as well as I know Finnish. I'd therefore like to know whether there is anyone here who feels up to teaching English as a second language.

this is new to me. can you first off tell me if this is finnish language?

gunterille hairatsastus ei ollut uutta. Han oli joittenkin muittenkin korallimerien sukeltajien tapaan koettanut ratsastusta "hoiturihailla" aiemmillakin sukelluksillaan - ratsu oli.....

i have an article that i would like to see what it says, and someone told me this was finnish language...can you please advise me if this is true first of all>????

This might sound cruel... but... many, many Finnish people write English better than you Raj. There are several punctuation errors and even a problem with indefinite articles in the three lines you wrote. I think you will find it difficult to get any work at all. A native English speaker (with or without a TEFL cert) can get lessons starting at about 17€/h but substantially more if qualified and experienced. However, most language schools will only offer freelance work, which is not good enough for a visa application, but OK if you are just looking for pocket money.

If you put 'English teacher TEFL language' into the search engine you will find lots of previous threads on this subject.

Well if the question is not for you then you have no reason to feel sore. :?

If your friend has good English skills, some experience teaching and / or a TEFL cert then ask him or her to send me a PM and I will give more information. I was trying to be helpful and the information I gave about salary rates and freelance opportunities is quite honest. There is already a list of language schools on this forum (just use the search engine) and most of them have websites and accept CVs by email.

There is work available for language teachers but the schools rarely give full-time permanent contracts. Getting work in the public sector is even harder. But not impossible.

You asked a question. I answered it. But feel free to ask someone else.
