English tour in Jorvi for Parents to be
English tour in Jorvi for Parents to be
Hello,
I was wondering if there were any other people who would be interested in taking the Parents to be Tour in Jorvi in English. At the moment they only do it in Finnish and Swedish but I wondered if I had enough names perhaps they might organise one. My antenatal course was in Finnish and although very helpful I would really feel better to get a good grip on the goings on in the labour ward (there is only so much googling a scared first time mum can take!!)
So far I am booked on a finnish tour for Sunday Mar 30th at 3pm with an English Speaking midwife. If we got more English Speakers for this date perhaps the tour could be in English altogether. Let me know if this date would suit anyone else?
It states that when registering for the course you must be after Pregnancy Wk 34...I don't know if this would apply for this occasion. Also if anyone knew of another hospital where they do organise the tour in English I would be very grateful for any informaton.
Please feel free to pm me with your details.
Best Regards,
Patricia

Naistenklinika in Helsinki has a tour of the labour ward once a month in English.
Re: English tour in Jorvi for Parents to be
Congratulations for the new baby coming!
We had our first baby at Jorvi and are soon to have our second child there.
We had a good experience. No complaints, they took good care of us as soon as we got there
and the midwife spoke good english. Hopefully your delivery will go very well.

Hello there!
I had little J at Jorvi so I can you some things about there
I went on the Finnish tour, seems they used to do it in English but stopped for some reason
I went before week 34, when I called to get a tour they didnt even ask me the due date and just gave me a date.
They showed us round the rooms, fathers area, bath-tub then the delivery room with all the things you can use in it. Then we went up to a ward, saw the 'normal' shared ward then had a quick peek in a family room as there was a family in there. Watched a dvd then about giving birth there.
Husband came so he translated anything I didnt understand or asked any questions I had.
Ill drop you a pm about something else!

Re: English tour in Jorvi for Parents to be
My wife is a midwife in Jorvi and I know that they do tours in English as she is the one who always does them (punishment for being married to an Englishman)!
I don't think they are regular but I will ask her tonight what the system is there and let you know more about it.

Thats funny Steve, I had my baby last Nov. When I called about an English tour they said that they had stopped doing them!

Thank you very very much for all your feedback! I think the panic has subsided....at least a little bit

Re: English tour in Jorvi for Parents to be
I just spoke to the boss and she says that previously English tours have been done on a request basis. They have now started to do one each month as the demand for them has increased recently.
She says that you must request them at the maternity clinic from the nurse there and she should then arrange it with Jorvi. Sorry that you missed out Sara, I guess no-one there wanted to do one and my wife was still on maternity leave herself at that time.

Re: English tour in Jorvi for Parents to be
Hi there,
Just to let anyone know who is interested, after a lengthy telephone discussion with Jorvi today I was told that although they are planning to have tours in English they do not offer this at the moment. There is an option to go on a finnish tour with an English Speaking midwife and ask any questions then but no English tours are being organised at present.
Hopefully this might change in the not too distant future (preferably within the next 6 weeks
),
Thank-you all for your help and feedback,
Patricia.

Hello,
I just wanted to update this thread as I went on a finnish tour of Jorvi last weekend. Even though it was in finnish I would reccommend to go (at least for first timers) as it was quite reassuring (well at least for me
) to see the place and get an idea of what is/might happen!
Regards,
Patricia
