Mineral Oil for Preserving Wooden Kitchen Utensils
Hi,
Recently I obtained some very nice and solid wooden kitchen utensils. I did some research and I found out that I need to apply food grade mineral oil regularly, to keep them in good condition for years to come. Thing is, I don't know where to start looking for the oil in Helsinki. If someone can give me any pointers, I would be very grateful.
Kiitoksia!

I bought mine from Ikea, at the kitchen department. Inexpensive and effective!

Don't think the IKEA mineral oil is used on kitchen utensils, more like on the countertops? If you can't find any then veggie oil should do the trick.
Just don't use machine wash, and don't let stuff to crust on, wash and dry immediately.

IKEA has the right stuff (also Stockmann and any pharmacy); it's parafiiniöljy på finska, doubles as a laxative. Vegetable oil will go bad over time.Hank W. wrote:Don't think the IKEA mineral oil is used on kitchen utensils, more like on the countertops? Ah, but thats not mineral oil is it... thats the stuff you put into cars...
As a sidenote, anyone been recently shopping, I'd be looking "wooden tubes" maybe 10cm to 30cm tall, diameter 5 to 10... like flower vases... sawn-off bamboo is what I have in mind... sort of a "vase" for my knives, I can do the inner partitions easy, but the exterior is a bit challenging... then I'd want a wooden skull to house my two chinese/japanese cleavers too...
