Did you take biology class in school? Know of X and Y chromosomes?
In a more traditional approach, if its got a wee wee its a boy.
Things do happen, but I'd go with the cromosomes... if theres too many either way you might have problems later on.

Congratulations on the birth of your nephew!

If the test for the sex of the baby was ultrasound, the technician can miss the "wee wee". Amniocentesis and CVS are accurate for determining sex.

if she found out by an ultrasound scan, it can really happen and i know a few people that had it happen to them( one of whom even had a 4D ultrasound show it was a girl, but then she ended up having a beautiful baby boy :o ). that's why even if i had the person doing the ultrasound say the baby was "x", i wouldn't trust him/her well enough to assume the baby really was "x"...

congrats on the birth of your nephew :D !

Yes, this happens sometimes!
I have a friend in Australia who was told she was having a boy and it turned out to be a girl!
Since they already had two boys they were quite happy.

I wouldn't either, as the baby is either XX or XY

The only 100% correct way to tell if baby will be a boy or girl is through testing the amniotic fluid, which they only do if they need to take tests for some other condition such as downs syndrome.

Baby can hide the crucial bits during a scan so sometimes it can be hard to say for sure. Though Ive seen some scans were there was no doubt it was boy

When we had our 20 week scan, they could only say it looks like a boy as she couldnt be 100%. We needed further scans later on and even a doctor couldnt be sure. Turns out we did have a boy but we we only went for neutral things 'just incase'

In the UK a lot of hospitals wont even tell you the sex now because some couples have been told wrong and then wanted compensation from the hospital

They told me and the ex that she was probably having twins (before the scan) which caused a bit of panic, after the scan we found out they'd got it wrong by 50%
