HI, I'm going to study my Masters in the University of Art and Design of Helsinki in the next semester.
So I'm looking for a flat to rent by the internet, but it is not being an easy thing because I do not speak finish yet and do not know the dinamyc of the city.
I don't know ifit is better to live near the downtown area or near the university, or in the Arabic beigborhood.
Does anyone could help with tips about a nice area with good transportation? A place good to an art student.
Thanks...
Where is a good place to live in Helsinki?

This link is the single most useful link you will find, it allows you to write in two adresses, and it shows you how easy/hard it is to get between them using public transportation.
This way you can see if an apartment is somewhere with good connections to your school.
Re which part of Helsinki is good to live in: that depends completely on what you want. Do you want a big place far up to the north or east, or do you want a tiny place next to Kamppi?
At least that link will allow you to test the adresses of apartments you are considering. Remember to test putting in different times of the day, sometimes it can be easy to get between A and B during the day, but impossible in evenings or weekends.
So now just go to Oikotie (there is a sticky about website that in the housing section of the forum) and look for apartments and check their adresses.
Good luck to you,
interleukin.

If you want to walk to school, look for Arabia... if you want to spend 10 minutes in the tram look for Sörnäinen, Kallio, Kumpula...
And theres no camels in Arabia
You can live though on India or Japan street.... or London alley
