Urgent situation regarding extension and health insurance

Hey,
I currently have a temporary residence permit on the basis of studies and it is going to expire on 10/08/2008. However, I am planning to spend the entire summer back in my home country so I have to get an extension before leaving. The problem is, everything is really confusing! Can I apply for an extension while I am there or do I really HAVE TO do it before I leave? Also, what should I do about the new health insurance requirement? I have been studying here in Helsinki at Helsinki School of Economics since September 2007 and when I got my residence permit I didn't need health insurance. Now they have this new requirement all of a sudden and I don't know where to get the insurance from! What should/can I do?

Also, my parents are funding my stay here so I get money transferred into my account every few months. Should I have 6000 euros in my account when I apply for an extension? Or is it okay otherwise? Because I am planning on going back home on 18th May and as I will only come back in September, I don't have a lot of money in my bank account.

I must also add that the duration of my studies is more than 2 years so I just need a cover up to 30,000 euros. Does anyone know of any insurance companies that can provide me with that kind of an insurance?
