Re: SIM card
For prepaid cards, Kolumbus is the cheapest and are sold at all R-Kioskis. For monthly contract typ cards, I have no idea.
Re: SIM card
And with the prepaid SIMs, can I just buy it, fill with credit, and start phonning?
I ask this because in my homecountry, since a few months ago, we have to provide our ID number for registration before being able to use it.
Thks!

Re: SIM card
Kolumbus is the best option it comes with 10 Euros loaded on sim and it is ready to work. You do not need any ID. It is quickest and cheapest option for foreigner who is coming to Finland for the first time.

I challenge everyone to tell me how to get a prepaid SIM card in the US. Like... an actual SIM card that you can stuff in your phone...

Re: SIM card
Short answer : You can't.
A lot of US cell phone companies hardwire the client information into the phone, and don't use SIM cards. They also charge for incoming calls and texts, in addition to the outgoing, which is rather annoying. I think there are just two companies in the US who offer SIM card service, but I don't know if they're prepaid. T-Mobile is one, and I think AT&T are the other. You may have noticed by googling that SIM cards in the US are crazy expensive, and that's because North Americans don't use the same system as Europeans for the most part. The concept of popping SIM cards in and out while travelling is not that popular yet, sadly.

Boundaries don't protect rivers, people do.

Re: SIM card
Yah, and where I am, there's not even an T-mobile or AT&T store... ARGH!
In about 2,5 months I will have a Verizon Samsung GSM for sale...

Re: SIM card
I bought my AT&T(Cingular) one from eBay. But I'm sure that any of the mobile phone shops in all the malls will have prepaids you can buy. The problem is depending on where you are, GSM service might not be available.
But this is what you want to look for. http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-CINGULAR-AT-T-3 ... dZViewItem
Not too expensive. Even check pharmacies for them. Pharmacies in the states are different than the ones in Europe, they sell all sorts of stuff. I wouldn't be surprised if CVS or a similar chain of pharmacy would have pre paid SIMS.
