MBA Business Management
I am planning on starting the MBA in Business Management this September. Am told that classes are only on the weekends and classes are structured in such a way that the student is working or running an entrepreneurship business here in Finland.
My question is this : will the UAS help the student to get a place to work,so as to acquire the practical experience, which is part of the course and which the thesis will be based on.

Classes only on weekend? I don't think so! Most UAS are closed after Friday afternoon til Monday morning!

"Studying while working
The Master’s degree takes approximately 2.5 years to complete. Most courses are organised in the evenings and on weekends. Some are organised as virtual studies online, so they can be completed at any suitable time and place. The master degree programme is planned the way that the students should be employeed here in Finland. Lectures are only appr. once a month and most of the projects are to be done concerning ones own work."
The above is a quote from the UAS brochure on the Masters degree,so can you please help me with my earlier question?
It says the the'...master degree programme is planned the way that the students should be employeed here in Finland. Please help,am sure forumites know the answers.

Re: MBA Business Management
I think you got the idea the wrong way around. Those courses are designed for people who are enterpreneurs in finland or whose company is sponsoring them to attend the course.

Re: MBA Business Management
Just being curious. You do know that there is tuition fee for MBA, and it costs like dozens of thousand euros right?
Re: MBA Business Management
The polytechnic Master's programmes, such as the one mentioned above, do not have tuition fees. However, e.g. the ones provided by Hanken and Helsinki School of Economics carry rather hefty fees.cafemaker wrote:Just being curious. But to the OP - just to make sure you've spotted this -
http://www.scp.fi/en-FI/programmes/211Work experience required
To qualify for the degree, applicants must have Bachelor of Business Administration, Bachelor of Science (Technology), Bachelor of Hospitality Management or a similar applied higher education degree, plus at least three years’ work experience after graduation.
In other words, you need to already have the work experience in order to be an eligible applicant!
Hank is correct in the sense that these "polytechnic Master's" are primarily -albeit not necessarily exclusively provided you have the required relevant work experience- targeted for those already in the working life here in Finland.

Re: MBA Business Management
I think this was discussed at length before, but theres a difference between a MBA and a "Master's Degree in Business Administration". The difference is which gives a qualification for "higher diploma of higher education", and which one is the "accredited" one. The MBA as a term is "reserved" so atleast HKK gives out M.Sc degrees for those getting a masters degree after the bachelor degree. The MBA "costing money" is a different animal alltogether.cafemaker wrote:Just being curious. You do know that there is tuition fee for MBA, and it costs like dozens of thousand euros right?

Re: MBA Business Management
I don't much think you'd have a chance getting in, they require the thesis idea written out with the existing business in the motivation letter. What I'd look is degrees like the aforementioned HKK's or Hanken's masters porogrammes.

Re: MBA Business Management
Well if you read what the student residence permit says about working, and that your studies need to be full-time, that kind of makes a few things interesting.
