I think the locals find it quite safe to walk around at night. Do you look, dress and act like a local?

I am not local and i definitely don't look like a local. So are you trying to say that because i don't look local, it isnt safe? I find that very ironic. =)

No, not at all, that's not what I am saying.

What I am saying is that the people I know who live in Mikkeli have never had any problems. If you turned up in a green pointy hat and "Mannerheim is a w4nker" written across the back of your jacket, then perhaps you might get some bad looks.

So it's a pretty difficult question for anyone to answer without knowing you (which possibly explains the lack of replies).

But if you're asking, "Does Mikkeli have a reputation for frequent, random attacks on people out for an evening walk?", then the answer is "no".

Ah , my apologies then for not being clear. Yes, i guess i wont really wear a green or orange or red jacket with "w4#73r" or "come kick my head" words on my jacket thats for sure.

Thanks for the Information.

100% safe,
I walk around at any time and the worst that can happen to you is a drunk cursing over you for not being Finnish (happened to me twice already), still you walk away and that is it.
If ever you find yourself in a real mess shout or run, no one here has a gun or anything like this, max max a kitchen knife but I honestly only heard about such situation 1.

If you are a woman you can have few more problems but then again usually related to drunks or smart arses trying to make a move, shall they get to close just lift your knee until you crash their nuts :-)

By the way, on the off chance that you are interested in military history or military vehicles, Mikkeli has some great stuff to see. There is a super selection of WW2 (and later) vintage vehicles at the (newer, now disused) barracks (free to see); also an interesting museum in the wartime headquarters and you can visit an underground bunker (which served as the communication hub in WW2); then there is the old barracks (some lovely old wooden buildings), which includes a museum with interesting military exhibits and informative staff.

Yea , i guess i will visit the historical antiques from WWII. Always been interested in it and besides , i was from the army anyway, so looking around at military stuff would be such a great morale booster. Hehe.
