How do holiday wages actually work?
Hi everyone! So here's the thing. How does the system work for paying wages on holidays? Is there any "bonus holiday's wage" in Finland? This is going to be my first summer with full time job and I've been reading from PAM website that it actually exists and you have to be paid after you come back from holidays. But to me it's not pretty clear how it works. In Spain, if you are lucky and have one of the few works in wich your employee agrees to give you two extra payments a year(wich would be Christmas and Summer payments), you will have 12 payments for 12 months plus 2 extra ones. But most of the people just have a spare of it all since there's a law that allows the employer to divide those 2 extra payents into the 12 months, so you just get a small amount each month. Will i get here something like that? I've noticed in my wage's paper there's always the "lomakertymä" thing (if i'm not mistaken "holyday's amount"). And a friend of mine told me (not beeing really sure about it) that she thought your holiday's wages are a 9% of the hole annual income. But still the question is: Is that 9% all i will be earning when I have holidays or is just something in addition to the normal payment? Well, hope someone knows better how this works. Thanks a lot.

Well i don't know exactly how it works in Finland...In my compnay, every employee gets 60% of the monthly salary in addition to the usual monthly salary,i.e. i got a summer vacation+holiday money(about 60% of my monthly salary)+usual monthly salary, all in the same month..ofcorse i can take my vacation whenever i want between may and october...we don't get a christmas bonus but we do get a christmas gift and a summer gift as well...besides the yearly bonus is paid at the begining of the year, depending on your performance in the preceding year...
but here is the twist...my father-in-law works in some metalli company...he only gets summer vacation and holiday money but no salary during the vacation...i.e.he only gets holiday money during the time he is on vacation...he told me that people working in the matalli sector companies don't get their usual pay during the vacation...only holiday money...so that's pretty strange...

Yeap. I must admit that sounds pretty strange. I'm a coo and work in restaurant business and would be really (really) strange if i get just the holiday thing and not the usual salary too. Thanks a lot for your answer!
