If you can give time and place then its easier to say if someone can come. You know people have to plan what they do.
And i assume one of you belongs to foreign cristian parish (im not sure how to read this part, ask in church if you didnt already) and you do have "no barrier certificates" what you can get on your embassy i think. I think you checked these but have to make sure. Marriage is legally binding in here so its not "just come and do" :)
Dont take this an offence, just want to make sure you know.

I would come but i dont speak english and dont have proper clothes (and i dont know yet what i do in january) and would scare priest anyway (i think i look like a lalli, genetic fear) Even if im atheist i think marriage is beautiful ceremony.

I hope you find people but date and place is needed :)

And whatever happens Congratulations and may Great Spaghetti Monster be with you (he doesnt have beautiful ceremonies tho :( )

Hey there

Thanks for the reply. Far from relgious ourselves. Won't be a religious ceremony at all.

The ceremony will be on the 29th of January, 2009 at 2pm. Near Kittila somewhere.

Thanks for the tips :)

The ceremony will be a civil ceremony.

We would like to just leave it til we get there but can't risk it as without witnesses the ceremony won't happen.

If not here we will try and findsomewhere elsewhere.

Thanks :)

Civil ceremony :(

Thats 2min ceremony :(

If i ever marry i want church ceremony like http://www.evl.fi/kkh/to/kjmk/toim-kirj ... nenA_e.pdf and yes im a man and atheist but that doesnt mean i dont appreciate beautiful ceremonies.
Yes its probably how i grew up, i just couldnt feel married with "so do you want to marry?" "ok" "and you?" "ok" "ok married then next!" way :D
Or maybe in deep inside im cristian :o

Im sorry i dont know any Kittilä newsgoups or boards, there will be lot of tourists in January (more in marc tho) so if you do your marriage in "Hullu Poro" you prolly have few hundred witnesses, wouldnt be romantic (or how i know whats your romantic) to do it in "bar" but :D "bar" because iirc there could be 1500ppl

You don't actually need to know the witnesses. When we got married, they offered to pull some people off desk work for 5 minutes if needed. I'm sure there is someone around there to do it. Ask at the general store when you get there.

I once was doing some maintenance work at a maistraatti, so suddenly the registrar fluttered by in a purple cape and said, "OK, so theres a man who can spare a maoment, you got ID on you, good, lets do a wedding" and there I was then the other witness... usually they use the office clerks.

I'm kind of appalled that these kind of attitudes are still so prevalent among Finns... "Church ceremony is the only proper way to get married", oh yeah... Not!!!

I really wish they finally manage to separate church and state in Finland sometime soon, as in most other civilized countries, so the only legal way to marry would be a civil ceremony. (Anyone who for some reason wishes could get a church "siunaus" ceremony on top of it if they wish).

Can't for the life of me see what's supposedly so "romantic" about a church ceremony, especially for people who aren't even religious...! That's so utterly fake, if anything (just using church for your own purposes, not even believing in what they say)...

Greeting, from someone who's getting married in a civil ceremony in a couple of weeks (and wouldn't have it any other way) ;)

Thank you.. you've just renewed my faith in people on this forum.
I'd given up in people actually just accepting your happiness and celebrating the marriage and beginning of a new chapter in ife together.

I couldn't agree with you more. Where you getting married? BIG Congrats! :) And thanks again!
