Hey

i want to apply for those 3 years studies called upper secondary school or this other one called vocational training in secondary school.
i read turku conservatory offers 3 years vocational training leading to a basic degree of music, i imagine there are many conservatories in finland offering vocational training of music but i dont know if foreigns students can apply to them and what do i need to apply (maybe certain finnish language level?)

i went to the finnish embassy with all my certifications(basic and higshschool graduation, included health insurance and 6.000 euros saved in a bank) and they said i was almost done for a student residence permit for a year, the only thing i need now is to be admitted in a vocational training of secondary school but you know.. i cant find any information about requirements foreigns students need to apply for this institutes.

maybe some of you can help me with this

well... umm... the language of instruction is for some peculiar reason Finnish or Swedish... that might present a slight problem...

probably, but i was told that if the institution admits me and gives to me an acceptance letter, i could go finland to study the language before starting my studies.. (cause its logical you wont go to vocational training for a year without even a basic understanding of finnish.)

i dont know if i really need an examination to get admitted .. cause i got my graduation in a Chilean british school and also i did the national test for universities and also i studied a semester in an university of my country.. where can i know if some of this is recognized by finland?

Yes, you do. It is not only to see if you have an adequate starting level, but also to select the potentially best students if there are more applicants than places. (which is almost always the case)

i could go finland to study the language before starting my studies..

1: you don't get a residence permit to study the language.
2: don't expect to learn enough Finnish in a year to study in that language.

no, not a year.. 6 months its possible always that you have been already admitted into the school. and im not dreaming about this ahha i was told in the finnish embassy

you mean... you are allowed to come here as a language student solely to complete required level of finnish so that you can study something that is offered in finnish?? if only nigerians know!!

no, you dont understand.. you have to be admitted by the school or university first. later you can take time to study finnish for 3 months and if its not enough time they can give you 6 months .. all of this before your studies begin of course

(irony) that sounds like a great idea. you will surely learn to speak Finnish well enough in six months. no problem (irony ends).

Sorry, but after six months you can order a hamburger in McDonalds, and buy a beer. No enough to study in. You are living in a dream bubble and it is better that you find this out now than when you should start your studies and you have to quit after a week.

i think there's such provision as you have mentioned but the key word here is vocational institution as opposed to polytechnics and university. vocational trainigs are conducted either in finnish or swedish as per my knowledge. hence, without such language knowledge, i don't think you can get admission into vocatinoal training. that's the end of story. but yes, you can get study place at polytechnics or university for the said course. best of luck.

man i ve been studying finnish about a year. if i take 3 months or 6 months for studies is to upgrade my level to C

How do you think to pass the entrance test (in Finnish) if you still need 3 or 6 months of Finnish study ?

i dont know wich level i need its why i came asking here.. maybe someone applied to upper secondary or vocational training and could tell me.
i have the intermediate finnish level certified, but i dont know how much is required to understand a class entirely

what is above sauid - the small print at http://www.migri.fi says:

A residence permit may be granted for study purposes at a post-comprehensive-school educational institution. Such institutions are mainly universities and vocational institutions. A residence permit can also be issued for studies at some other educational institution leading to a degree or vocational qualification

A residence permit may be granted for studies in the Finnish or Swedish language if the studies are conducted at university level and lead to a degree. Hence, language courses lasting for a few months at private language schools do not normally constitute sufficient grounds for granting a residence permit. Exceptions include situations in which the student has already been accepted for studies at a Finnish educational institution and he or she wishes to familiarise him- or herself with the Finnish language and culture prior to starting the studies.

Residence permits are not generally issued for studies at folk high schools, Christian colleges or similar institutions where studies do not lead to a degree or vocational qualification

and the vocational institution i want to apply for leads to a degree after 3 years of studies, so i think i would take the chance of improving my finnish level to advanced before starting a study program in the vocational institution
