..anyone got any suggestions for the best Tandori in Helsinki area? (yes I have searched the forum and naada came up)
I'm after the real thing, best if cooked in a tandori oven along with the bread (takes up the flavour)
Much appreciated, as always!

If you're in Leppävaara on Wednesday around lunch time, check out Curry Palace. I found out last week that they have tandoori chicken on the lunch buffet on Wednesdays. I asked if it was a regular item and was told that it is for now. I recommend going early, though. We were there at noon and the place was packed. I think we're planning to go tomorrow, but no later than 11. Other than that, I don't think I've ever had tandoori chicken at CP. I'm more of a butter chicken girl.
Oops, I just remembered that I have school in the morning. Looks like I'll have to fight the noon crowd after all.

punjabi style is peshawar, the pakistani restaurant..
Indian Style, is Satkar..
Curry Palace mistreats people who are or looks like they are from the subcontinent and many have decided to boycott it!! Moreover, the people who work there are also not satisfied with the selfish owner!! Most of the Indians prefer Satkar and Peshawar!! than curry Palace including me because of the attitude of the owner towards his own people!

Hey raamv, next time you're in Peshawar be nice to the TEET student who's clearing the tables... he's a good lad!
(I think he's there during the first two weeks in October!)

The guys at Peshawar are really friendly. I always eat lamb special in there, despite it being a bit too fatty for my taste.

What do you mean by that? In what way?
Curry Palace is the only one near me. Where is Peshawar?

Most of the times, I ve been there Its like we need to wait for a long time before the guy even offers a table to sit..
When asked for the menu, Its as though we asked for free food!! Any request comes with a grump!!
Its not just me but many of my friends from the Indian subcontinent who have been telling me this!!
Its not the same treatment for Natives. whenever they ask something its first priority!! so most of us avoid Curry Palace.
OTOH, Even if Pesahwar is Pakistan, They treat everyone with respect and provide with the best service..
( Even if some of the food is not that good e.g. I avoid Fish there. But They make the best Lamb and Chicken dishes..
Their vegetarian choices are OK..but that is already known as they come from the Punjab region)..

In that case the owner and personel of Curry Palace are really stupid. Don´t they understand that many Indian looking clients would be the best possible advertisement for the place.
Like that Chinese place in Töölö that was mentioned here as a good and authentic one. When I went there it was full of Chinese looking people. I took it as a very good sign. And yes, the food was good.

Some of the food in Curry Palace was pretty good last time I went there ( and the last time to go there )But because of their attitude, most of my friends and I dont recommend them...
Satkar is far better a place for its food and service!
I would rate Satkar, Peshawar in the top of my list. and I do visit Pesahwar at least once in 2 weeks ( Close by) during lunch time with most of my colleagues and they were pretty surprised by the service they get.
I even surprised an Indian living in the UK ( Fulla Indian restaurants) with Pesahwar!!

I can understand if they had the same attitude towards everyone, but its just towards "Indian Looking folks"/Desi's if you know what I mean!!

Sorry for my ignorance, but is Northern Indian style the same as Nepalese? Or is it just similar? I'm asking this because Satkar advertises itself as a Nepalese restaurant? What on Satkar menu would you suggest for a non-meat eater to have?

Nepalese, is close to North Indian Style of cooking ( Exclude, Punjabi and some NE Indian style cooking.) and blander..
Dal based dishes are vegetarian..Try saag aloo ( spinach potato), saag panneer ( Spinach cheese), Malai Kofta ( veggie balls), Aloo Gobi ( Potato n Cauliflower)..
Most of above are safe dishes to try as they really cant screw up on those!!

I'm not a fan of the prison trays in Satkar. No need for it.
Quite depressing really, the curry options in Helsinki.
I've had to go as far as learning how to cook stuff myself.

Thanks. I'm actually familiar with those dishes, was just thinking if there was something 'more special' or more worthwhile trying.
I am badly craving for South Indian food, for my masala dosa. The continuous lack of South Indian restaurants in Helsinki/Finland is a serious shortcoming.
