Hi everyone.
Would like to get one of those combined printer-scanners for home use. Nothing fancy. Am, however, running computers with WinXp, OS X and linux (different mainstream distros depending on my current mood), and I would like to find a machine that works "out of the box" on the different OSs. I think the OS X will probably not be such a big problem.
I know I could just use the printer/scanner from the Windows computer but A) its not very convenient to keep that machine on at all times and B) I don't want to give money to a company that does not prioritise making drivers that suit my needs. I can't force a company to make linux drivers for their stuff, but I don't have to buy their things either. I have tried going to stores and asking but getting no clear answers (Verkkokauppa was ok, they admitted they had no idea and suggested I google it. OnOff tried to sell me a computer with Vista instead....).
I know that in many cases it may be possible to find drivers online on some obscure sites or get a generic printer driver to work with most of the printer/scanner functions, but I am after something that works already. Have tried to look for linux drivers of some of the printer/scanners I have seen in stores, but searchers on the manufacturers' websites never yields drivers for that particular machine. Have also done quite a lot of googling on the matter, but would like to see if anyone on this forum has experiences to share. Any tips or ideas?
best regards,
interleukin

Re: suggestions for multi-OS printer/scanner?
the main problem will be the scanner. usually a printer is a printer is a printer, linux used to be impossible as only SCSI scanners were available in the day back when and it didn't recognize regular TWAIN - but the newish distros should work. what you look for is a multisystem like canon and then look for linux - you need to have the scanner work in linux otherwise its no issue.
