Mikkeli AMK exam

Post by Hollgam » Tue Feb 03, 2009 12:14 am

Hi all!
I've just joined this forum and it is brilliant ! And I am already asking for some help... :)

I'm applying for a bachelor degree in IT at MAMK and i have no idea what is going to be on the entrance exam.
1. I want to know what parts will the exam consist from.I've read that exams are derided by 2 parts: math and English but i have also heard that Mikkeli adds Physics as well, is that true? And what kind of math is there?
2. I've been trying to find examples of exams from previous years for quite a while and I've got nothing so far :( I'd be very very thankful if someone could provide working links with examples!
3. I've sent my TOEFL score with 94 points does it mean that I won't be required to take English part on exam or I will have to pass it too?

Please help me with some information. I've seen many people suggesting to send direct email to the Uni asking about contents of the exam, I will probably do so but I'd love to hear some information here at first. Thanks in advise!

though i can't help with your other stuffs,

3. your toefl score seems internet based and exceeds the required 79-80 score. So, no need for english test but these info are given at http://www.admissions.fi which i believe you used for applying. No need for worrying.... others will hopefully paste other links.

Thanks a lot for your help! I checked admissions.fi one more time it seems that everyone needs to participate in English part of the test now.

yes well they need to weed out those to invite to take the test in the first place, the English test is more reading comprehension of a given text.

I've heard that there is also a part when teachers watch you talk with several other student. Do you know anything about it?

yeah, thats something they assess if you can perform in a group. the polytechnics are project-group-a-ramas... after that you never want to work in a group any more. I don't know what the current entrances are like - back when I applied we had an IQ test and a maths test for one and then a huge wad of material for another one.

what are you talking about man.....? most students these days don't even get visa to appear for entrance exam here in Finland. They have to sit for exams in their home country and that is if its made available to them.

having said that.... they may use discretionary measures to select students... who knows!!

(Actually, this group discussion is highly effective to select the best ones!! esp. in job interviews and perhaps in other areas also)

Edit: seems group discussion/personal interview is part of the entrance exam as well at least within Finland.

Hello!

I thought I would reply to you since I'm interesting in applying to finnish polytechnics as well.
Unfortunately, I am graduating by the beginning of June. This means I will apply to AMK next spring!
After all it's not that bad because I'm planning to head to England a couple of months after graduation in order to improve my English skills!

I suppose you want to study something concerning International Business, don't you?
If so, I tried to get some information and all I could find out was that the test is based on a written part with really basic maths and logical questions, as well as a reading comprehension just to test your English, but having TOEFL or IELTS you would be exempted from that part.
Oh, and you can already find the pre-material for the exams! There might be questions about some articles concerning business and so on.
You might have already seen them in some AMK's sites. :)

However, if I understood well, the most important thing is the oral part, when you're asked to take part in a sort of interview-group, and you have to discuss about a topic given by examiners... Well, I guess the secret is to be confident and show you are determined and the right person to study in that school. :ochesey:

And well.. somehow I hope they appreciate foreign students....!!!
I don't know where you are from..but.. as far as I'm concerned... I'm from Italy!!!! 8)

Well, I don't know if I have somehow been useful...
I hope to hear more from you!

Good luck for everything!

Greetings from (cold!!! ) Italy!
... I miss Finland ...

Thanks a lot for your reply ! A lot of useful information in it :) I'm applying for 4 programmes in IT so as far as I know there is no need for me in pre-reading material for exam and math will be a bit harder than for other degrees but the fact that I may be exempted from the reading part sounds great! Greetings from cold(as usual) and lame(as always) Ukraine! Good luck with your application and have a great time in the UK. I've been to that beautiful country and it helped me with my English a lot!
