entrance examinations
entrance examinations
Hello!
I ve applied online to Turku University of Applied Sciences. I ve seen some information about entrance examinations on some UAS websites (Oulu, JAMK). They have the same pre-reading materials for entrance examinations. And now I am wondering Do UASes (Universities of Applied Sciences) have the same entrance examinations using the same pre-reading material?
Thank you for taking the time to answer my question. Looking forward to your response.

Re: entrance examinations
It's simple, they just corporate.
When you apply to degree program ex. tourism in 4 different UAS you will take an entrance exam only in school of your first choise. They will share results. It would be hard to corporate and exchange results if each school would provide own pre-reading material and tests
And of course poor students would need take the exam 4 times! So yeah, they have same pre-reading materials and tests for same cooperative degree program.

Re: entrance examinations
Dear Missie,
I couldn't help but reply to you since we are kinda on the same boat.
Well, you have already applied this year, while I will try next year, in spring 2010.
I'd be interested in business,management as well.
As many of us already told you, finnish polytechnics work jointly.
So the entrance examinations will be help usually on the same day in all Finland, no matter if you are taking it in TAMK or JAMK or wherelse...
There's only a little exception. Metropolia business school in Helsinki ( the one I'm interested in )
They have a different entry test from the other schools. ( No pre-material provived, and most of the examination is based on an interview group where you have to show your best abilities.
)
I guess you have already found the pre-materials in some sites.
Apart from that, I have heard there is usually some really basic maths such as percentages, simple equations, and logical exercises.
After all, you can't practise a lot for this. Now I don't know how old you are, but if you have finished high school recently you shouldn't be that worried.
Probably a quick revise could be a good idea before the entrance examinations are held, but not too much stress. ( Ahah now I'm laughing because I'm saying this and I am starting to panic myself already now, for the entry tests in spring 2010 !!!!!!
)
Good luck my dear friend
Hope everything will go in the best way, and I would like to keep in touch with you, to find out how the exam was and your opinion concerning it.
Hugs from Italy.

Re: entrance examinations
Have you found out any more specifics about the Entrance Exam process for Metropolia Environmental Engineering Program?
Will be there next week for the exam!
Exam to be for me 100% math covered in High School.
The intensity of math study at a Finnish High School may be different than my American experience.
We see from the web site that the 3hr 45min exam is solely based on his math background in general high school level mathematical competence. This would cover the subject material listed; Elementary mathematics, Expressions, Equations and pairs of equation, 1st order inequalities, Elementary functions and their graphs, applications, Geometry and trigonometry, Calculus with applications. Need to bring calculator, protractor, and two drafting compasses.
Is there an interview?
would letters of recommendation help?
Any advice would be helpful... soon please
