Hello, I'm an English teacher from Poland and I'm looking for any kind of job. It can be summer job (for start) or permanent, because I'm planning to move to Finland - I would prefer Helsinki. I started to learn Finnish, because it may increase my chances, but it's difficult language and it may takes some time to learn it. Please help me find something.
Cheers
Christina

Finding a job in schools etc in Finland is quite hard, there are few jobs available and you have to have high qualifications and good contacts. There are however a few TEFL jobs here.

The thing is with TEFL they prefer native speakers. So being Polish it could work against you. Although I do know of a Romanian guy who does TEFL here.

If you do really wish to come and try TEFL I would suggest that you forget about working in Finland for about 6 months - 1 year. The recent economic situation means that there are very few schools hiring and there is very little work.

As for working in schools and Unis...I don't know much about that. I picked up work when I was here and it was more through word of mouth.

Most of the work that is available (public schools or TEFL) is freelance and people are very reluctant to give you a perm. contract or a full teaching week until you can prove you can cut it.
