applying for RP in finland?
applying for RP in finland?
Hi,
A friend of mine from home (Turkish with B.Sc.) got an internship offer from a small Finnish IT company and they are looking for a way to get him to Finland as quickly as possible.
Here's what happened to me in 2007: I was in Finland as an exchange student with a student RP, started part-time work, the company wanted to have me over during the Summer too. We applied for a worker's RP for summer. Worker's RP's go through Työvoimatoimisto so that they could do their red-tape magic. It took 3 months (!!!) for them to remind us that they wouldn't issue RPs for part-time work. Luckily I could extend the RP through school, but got pissed off at MOL because it took so long to give such a simple response.
Because of this bitter experience with MOL I'd rather his application avoid that route.
Now there are several things in mind,
-- If you're say, applying for an IT traineeship for a year, do your papers even go through MOL?
-- There is a special arrangement in RP law for "special expertise in IT field", upon which only UVI would process the application and papers wouldn't go to MOL. Do you think it would apply for a traineeship too?
-- I myself did an internship last summer for 3 months and in that case the embassy just gave me a visa. If he did the same thing and arrived in Finland with a visa issued for internship, would he be able to apply for a RP?
If you have any clue, please share!

Re: applying for RP in finland?
Trainees have a bit of a different thing - depends on what his terms are really. But as you know coming here means chancing sitting with thumb in arse 3 months to hear "piss off - wrongly applied".

Hey, thanks for the reply.
What do you mean by terms? Apart from working, and getting paid?
I could not find anything in the legislation for trainees apart from this:
In this case the papers don't go to MOL at all, if I get it right?

Does this mean that for an internship, you don't actually get a work permit but just a residence permit, but you are allowed to work?80 §

The MOL is a rubber stamp, the MIGRI is what sits on the papers. Yeah, the paragraph what you quoted is what I was thinking about... the job has to be "pertaining to studies"

Re: applying for RP in finland?
FIY, my fiancé got his first RP based on "special expertise in IT field" and his papers certainly went through MOL. So do his second RP papers (also based on IT field expertise), which were lodged today.dar1us wrote:-- There is a special arrangement in RP law for "special expertise in IT field", upon which only UVI would process the application and papers wouldn't go to MOL. The employer should apply for the permit, if your friend gets paid during the traineeship.
All the permit application go through bot MOL and Migri.

Re: applying for RP in finland?
Maybe 'cause Migri knows about migration thingys and Mol (ministry of labor) knows about labory things like what expertise is needed for IT job.Iseult wrote: FIY, my fiancé got his first RP based on "special expertise in IT field" and his papers certainly went through MOL.
