Unemployed or on parental leave?

Hi,

I am very confused as to what I should claim. I visited Kela but they didn't seem to know either. I should go with my husband next time which should make communication easier but in the meantime maybe one of you faced a similar situation or knows something we don't.

Here is the situation:
I worked last year from November 07 to June 08 (fixed term contract). Then my maternity leave started mid-July. It ends on mid-May. I have found a new job and will start early August.

So between mid-May and early August, what should I claim? Unemployment? Or should I take a parental / care leave?

you can do both...but only one at a time..
you need to calculate what you will get from KELA if you are on parental leave ( taking care of your kids..which is allowed for upto 3 years after maternity..I think)
you can also calculate what you will get ( From KELA and if you qualify for unemployment fund ..which in this case you will if you have paid for it all the time and that you have had jobs before that. for at least 10 months. Returning unemployment qualification for unemployment fund is 6 months, otherwise, its 10 months of employment to qualify for unemployment benefits)..
So in your case, if unemplyment from KELA; its probably peanuts..

In that case I don't think I'll be entitled to unemployment as I worked from November to June. I guess I really have to drag my husband to Kela with me then!
