Arctic 10’s - Rugby on top of the World!
Arctic Rugby is proud to announce the very first Arctic 10’s rugby tournament to be held in April 2004 at the picturesque ski resort of Saariselkä, 250km north of the Arctic Circle in Finnish Lapland.
The Arctic 10’s tournament is the most northerly rugby tournament in the World. The participating teams have the honour of not only playing 250Km above the Arctic Circle, but also playing in one of the premier tournaments in the Nordic countries.
Arctic Rugby spokesperson David Mason states “It is our objective to bring to all those that participate a sense of fun, enjoyment, friendly competition and pride, as it is not every rugby club that can say to their future opponents that they have played 250km above the Arctic Circle in snow”.
David also adds “The main question that people ask is: Will it be too cold to play? To which the answer is a very big “no”, the long spring days bring average temperatures of anything between +5 to +15°C, add to that the dry air that Lapland has and it is actually a lot warmer that it sounds. This means that a pair of tracksuit bottoms and a club jersey with a layer of thermals underneath is more than suitable to play in and it will definitely feel a bit warmer than playing in the UK on a cold January day in a pair of shorts”.
