May I take a check-up in the sixth/seventh pregnancy week?

Post by lijincww » Sun Jun 07, 2009 12:58 pm

I am pregnant for six weeks and have not made appoinment for the first check-up at the locol maternity clinic. Since yesterday, I found there was some suprising when I was at the toilet, some tiny blood but visiable. This really upsets me. It is the first time for me to be pregnant and I am eagerly want see the doctor and get the right answer. May I get a checkup tomorrow, for example? Since the first regular check-up usually takes place at the nine weeks, I am not sure if I can see the nurse or doctor in advance and how.

Thanks for any comments!

Yes you can try, call them! Im sure they will try to squeeze you, but Im sorry to say if something is going to go wrong they cant do anything. Other option is take yourself to the hospital for a check, especially go to the hospital if the bleeding is heavy and/or you have pain. If you dont have any more bleeding they may well just want you to wait. But call neuvola and see what they say.

Most bleeding in pregnancy is harmless and nothing to worry over.

If it was just a tiny bit of pink it could be from you cervix, especially if you had sex recently, its normal and nothing to worry about. Some women also experience some spotting about the time their period would have been due.

At this stage they won't do much. I had heavy bleeding at week 7 of my pregnancy. But it was clear red blood and a lot of it. I thought I was miscarrying again so went straight away to Naistenklinikka emergency. They took me straight away, made me lie down and I id have a scan showing a healthy embryo with a strong heartbeat but also a placenta that was coming off slightly. I was ordered bed rest for a few weeks. And now I have a healthy 10-mths old :) For my daughters I had spotting every tie I was supposed to get my periods for the first 4 mths.

If you are worried, go to Naistenklinikka, they will do their best to reassure you and if there is a need for a check or a scan they will do it.

Great thanks! I don't think it is serious, just a tiny bit of pink as Sara mentioned, but I would call the maternity clinic to make an appointment and for some advice. If needed, I may go to Naistenklinikka to have a check tomorrow. BTW, may I get the contact info of any Naistenklinikka at Tampere area, I am sorry that I have no idea on it.

How are you doing today?

I had the same kind of experience as most women... I had some spotting and called to neuvola, they adviced me to not worry and to wait and see. The next day it got worse and I went straight to terveyskeskus in the community where I worked (I was 80km from the nearest hospital) they did an ultra but sent me through to the hospital. Unfortunately my story didnt end that well but with the 3rd try I got a very happy and energetic son, who is now 6 months.

BUT in your case I would call to neuvola (as people have said) but they won't take you (except if you have a super friendly nurse with too much time on her hands). If the bleeding gets worse, don't hesitate to go straight to the hospital, it is better to be reassured then to not know. They might not be so happy to see you, but don't care, it is your body and baby. (I went twice to the hospital during my 1st miscarriage, the 2nd time was in the middle of the night and the gyneacologist was not so happy to see me - as I woke him up and they had already seen 7h ago that I was miscarriaging. But I was in so much pain, that I just had to go.)

I wish you well and hope for the best!

Gigi

Thanks! I called neuvola this morning and was arranged for the first check-up on Friday. Since I only have a very tiny bit of pink, I was told that it is normal and common. But the neuvola also mentioned that if I have fresh blood and pains, directly have an emergency treatment at the hospital.

Today looks better, only a very tiny spot of pink, even less than yesterday, at least not more ...

That's good to hear. And nice that you got so quickly a time at your neuvola. Don't expect to get an ultrasound during that visit, it will be more of a get-to-know-each-other with maybe some basic weight-bloodpressure-blood samples.

But I forget to say during my last message: Congratulations with your pregnancy.
