Does anybody know of a good authentic Chinese Hotpot restaurant in Helsinki? Sure, I am aware of a good authentic Chinese restaurant, but I am looking for a hotpot restaurant.

Not trying to be sarcastic (ok, well maybe a little) but check out Stockholm. much more likely to have luck there. Make a long weekend out of it.

That's not hot pot, raamv. Not every city in China offers real ones, unfortunately.

I also like number 33 and 45 and love a 69. (an oldie but goodie)

Besides Raamv's suggestions..any other good places? Might be a good post gig meal before the long drive back.

That chinese restaurant in Kamppi does a hotpot ... not cheap, but very nice. When we had it they set it up on one of the tables in the second dining room, at the rear of the restaurant.

http://www.dongbeihu.fi/home_eng.html - can't remember if they do hotpot though, check the menu...

Word of warning - I'm accustomed to relatively hot & spicy foods, however the chili squid at Dong Bei Hu was almost the death of me  I assume that their other portions marked on the menu with "three chilies" might also be not recommended for the faint-hearted...

I tried the duck which was marked with three chillies and it wasn't *that* bad, so it varies. Still, one of the best Chinese restaurants in town.

It's "Sichuan". If you want proper spicy Chuan style, you have to go to Sichuan for it. That's why I don't bother trying those so-called "Chinese" restaurants any more; I fly to the country once a year (just) to get the real stuff. :ochesey:

Yes!! good fer you!! Can you pack some back on the way!! :ochesey:
At least most of the Chinese and Vietnamese stuff I get are from Hakaniemi..
I tasted Authentic Chinese(Hunan, Sichuan ), Vietnamese, Mongolian, Ethiopian, Malaysian, and Thai food until I lived in the US..But here its watered down to the taste of the Locals..
The only place where I got a taste of the same food that the owners ate was at Hongkong!!
Mebbe We should start a Chinese Cookout..where People can make the nearest Chinese Dish that they know and have a pot luck dinner..

The essence of Chinese food is freshness-- Everything has to be fresh, and I don't see how we can achieve that here. If you want to get the true flavor out, everything should be "right", even including the water. Yeah, I'm that "picky" in food. 8)

I go to that store occasionally too, and regret later.

the tinned mushrooms in the chinese restaurants here just don't do it for you then? Pretty vile I have to say.

My folks lived in Hong Kong for 3 years and were shocked when I told them about the veg in the chinese food here...My mother had a near heart attack..."Tinned vegetables in Chinese food????? But fresh stuff is soooo important!!"

(i'm convinced she still rings Hong Kong and tells old friends).
