Newbie ..I need Help
Hello, I am looking for some direction in where to start to learn the Finnish Language. I would like to learn on-line if possible, but any direction would be great.

While I could never claim to be an expert, I searched long and hard online and had no luck. In my opinion, you have to be able to *hear* Finnish being spoken, write it down, and see it. All three are important. I learn the most by repeating after a tape! "Teach Yourself Finnish" is without question my favorite of the several books I purchased. I also bought a Finnish/English and English/Finnish dictionary and a phrase book just in case I really need it, but the tapes are the way to go, if you can't take an actual class!
Once you have mastered the book/tape self paced course, then I'd try speaking with Finnish people and listening to the radio online and seeing how much you understand I also download Finnish songs off of WinMX for the same reason.
That's just my method... probably very flawed!!!

Hi
Don't forget to check out 'Tavataan Taas' course run by Helsinki University. It is quite user friendly, and has audio for almost all the text.

Best of luck!
