Re: Curry houses in Tampere?
If someone can remind me how to search on a forum, I can look for an old post of mine. I think that should at least tell you which one to avoid (IIRC).

Re: Curry houses in Tampere?
Good man,
I did try a search for "tampere curry" but didn't find my way to that post. I also checked Eat.fi which gave "Star & Moonlight" as the highest rated curry place
http://eat.fi/tampere/star-moonlight
But a check of the menu categories on
http://www.starandmoonlight.com/
indicates that it's some kind of burger / kebab / pizza joint with curry a distant 6th.
Coriander seems to be pretty poor, but it's not open tomorrow anyhow...
http://eat.fi/tampere/coriander
Gopal sounds promising, but isn't open in the evening ...
http://eat.fi/tampere/kasvisravintola-gopal
Nanda Devi several others complained about the service, and has an average rep at best....
http://eat.fi/tampere/nanda-devi
Any others care to pitch in?

Re: Curry houses in Tampere?
Due to its proximity to Stockmann, the fact that it was open when we wanted to eat and the reasonable review on eat.fi we went to Swagath
http://www.swagath.fi/
And it was pretty bad.
Weakly microwaved pakora and samosa to start (warm in parts stone cold in others).
43. Alu Palak (edible but tasteless) and 45. Kashimir Sabji (vile) as mains, plenty of rice which tasted alright.
Breads ... impossible to tell which was the paratha and which was the roti both dire... but on the up side the garlic naan was delicious.
Bill for 2 including soft drinks was €47.
Overall score 3/10 (2.8 of which are for the garlic naan).

Re: Curry houses in Tampere?
The easiest way to get a good curry if you're in Tampere is to catch a ryanair flight to London.
Gopal's nice, but it's more 'vegetarian' than 'Indian' if you know what I mean. Lots of bean sprouts and salad, not much deep fried spicy loveliness (although when they do have pakoras on, they're usually good).
I was thinking of trying this place soon:
http://eat.fi/fi/helsinki/saffron-cuisine
Anyone tried it?

Wise words... and we will be doing that in January... unfortunately, we were only in Tampere for the sales and wanted to grab a cuzza ... Pori is a curry free zone.TampereOwl wrote:The easiest way to get a good curry if you're in Tampere is to catch a ryanair flight to London.
Yeah, Gopal has a good rep., we'd have been happy to try that, but it shuts at 16:00 on Saturdays and we were looking for somewhere for dinner.TampereOwl wrote:Gopal's nice, but it's more 'vegetarian' than 'Indian' if you know what I mean. Seems the reports on eat.fi are a bit variable ... love it or hate it. Would be good to have a review from someone who knows that the best curry in Tampere is via Ryanair.TampereOwl wrote:I was thinking of trying this place soon:

Re: Curry houses in Tampere?
I'm a bit wary, as it looks like the kind of place where the bill is going to make me angry if the food is mediocre. Might be safest to try it for lunch first, which I will aim to do before I head to the UK at Christmas, but surely one of the Helsinkians must have been there?
