We were pleasantly surprised to notice after being away from Finland the past two years, so many buffet restaurants mushrooming all over Helsinki. Ravintola Dynasty is perhaps Helsinki's best kept secret of a Chinese buffet restaurant!

The buffet includes a great side selection of sushi (salmon, prawn, egg, avocado nigiris plus a variety of makis) and Thai curry. Value for money plus a calm quiet atmosphere.
Kalevankatu 23 (next door to the Japanese restaurant Koto)
00100 Helsinki
tel: 09-680 1865
Opening hours (Mon-Fri) 11.00 - 23.00 (Sat-Sun) 12.00-23.00
They do the buffet on weekends too.

Where? I have never noticed it. Although if the prices are the usual, I stick to making my own.

I'd suspects its in the "new wing" that used to be some offices... need to walk with eye in hand... open 11-18 so not much the times I ever am there...

Yes, I suppose if they had paprika on their sushi it wouldn't quite make the cut for good sushi!

But I think since the review in August, they might have bucked up bcos we found the sushi fresh, succulent with generous portions of salmon on the nigiris. The selection isn't extensive but what they have is pretty good imo.
The other place which also has a sushi buffet is that Thai place in Kaisaniemi station - Happiness? Now the sushi there really sucked. The place is usually packed since you can get the whole shebang for around 8euros but I think the food quality is not consistent and it's gone down really bad since my first visit.

Well... then I might hazard a visit there, as the SO has started to fancy sushi and for me its just a raw fish... so I definitely want to eat something else.

I've spotted it, but it's
never been open when I've fluttered past.
It's actually
not in the new wing, it's in the "main hall" close to the entrance of Eliel... near where there are those Otto ATM machines. It's very small, like a ticket booth really

If you take the short flight of stairs / escalator from the Asemaunnli to the Railway station main hall, look ahead... and then a bit right.

Ah-haa...so its in that old wooden booths where they had Helsinki info and the security guards station? No wonder - there didn't used to be much if anything there so I don't pay any attention to that section

usually all the weirdos hang around there.

Yep, and the place seems to have the physical capacity to accommodate only one box of sushi at a time - two if the salesperson steps outside

Or maybe they have a large store-room somewhere in another dimension...

Koto makes so much better sushi. BTW, anyone tried the Raku Ya place?

We just went to another Chinese restaurant in town today and thought it worth a mention here as well since good Chinese food is rare to come by here! Restaurant Shanghai in Aikatalo just downstairs from Ichiban. Also a buffet spread which I would rate as pretty authentic (let's hope they keep it that way and not try to make it to suit local tastebuds.) No sushi included in the buffet tho. It's pretty jammed pack around noon but you could get a good table once the crowd thins around 1pm. Let me know the verdict of these two restaurants ok!
