Winter and soup (talvi ja keitto)...

Post by tuulen » Sat Nov 07, 2009 9:17 am

Some soups are thin, with few ingredients, and some soups are thick, nearly a stew.

In winter, however, it seems that everybody enjoys soup as a meal. Mmm, hot and tasty!

My favorite soups usually include chicken or fish, along with a lot of vegetables, and some seasoning.

What kind of soup do you like?

Fish soup, pea soup.

Oh! I forgot to mention peas. Yes, as I write this I am now cooking a big pot of soup, including lentils, which are a kind of pea.

Then again, sometimes I do make a real pea soup, but there I add a piece of pork cut into small pieces, along with lots of onion.

I love all soups. Every season has its soups.

Tonight we will have a big pot of thick game soup with lots of root veg (parsnips, carrots, artichokes) and elk tongue. I made it yesterday but it always tastes better if its left for a while.

Mmm! That sounds delicious! And, letting that kind of soup *rest* for a day does make it even better.

My own soup has now been cooking on a low heat for a few hours, and I am getting hungry!

Hmm.. Its saturday so good day for keitto ;)
Today i will make önkkö special what includes minced meat (from unhappy tortured animal, greasy with lot of fat), potatoes, "keittojuures", onion (power growth with lot of fertiliser) and koskenlaskija cheese (traditional). It will be more like stew tho but i call it soup, i think i will eat it 2 to 3 days or so.
Also today i will have (already started to have) other kinds of keitto so if i post nonsense im PUI (posting under influence), like it makes any difference on my posts anyway. And yes this is early but youre not my mom :)

PS. Tuulen i thought you would eat pea soup more often when i look your nick

So many good soups...

The Icelandic Kjötsúpa(meatsoup) a hearty soup more like stew, full of lamb and veggies.(best reheated)
Goulash.
Bouillabaisse.
Lobster soup(Icelandic)(a really rich creamy soup similar to bisque but full of lobster and just about any other firm white sea fish, not pureed like the bisque tho. Wolffish/catfish and Halibut being the best)
Cauliflower and Ham soup.
Mushroom soup.
Any game soups are always a favorite as well.

Makkara soup became a favorite from the time i tried it the first...mind you i seem to be addicted to Makkara! haha

Recently tried Borscht and loved it...having it again soon!

Make noodle soups regularly as well, flavor depends on what meat i have in the fridge at the time.

And much much more...
I'm Icelandic...what's your excuse?

In summer fish soup and "kesäkeitto" (soup out of baby vegetables and milk).

In winter pea soup, lentil soup, mushroom soup and borsh with smetana. And when I feel extra industrious traditional meat soup out of the bonier parts of the animal.
