Quark recipes

Post by Cloudberry » Sat Apr 03, 2010 7:52 pm

Anyone have any good recipes for quark? I picked up two tubs because they were on sale not even knowing what it was (but I just knew it was a bargain!). I've seen the finnguide website recipes but just wondering if anyone has any others? I'd really like to make some kind of cake with it...

Usually people use it in pies. If you google "rahkapiirakka" you get tons of recepies. Here is one: http://www.hs.fi/ruoka/reseptit/artikke ... 5244639275

Quark is the primary ingredient in the traditional Finnish (originally Russian Orthodox) Easter dessert, pasha. You can find a boatload of recipes on the net, both in Finnish and English.

You can use it for making cheesecake (the baked kind), mixed with cream and eggs. I usually add either vanilla essence or lemon zest for some added flavour. And I did a blueberry coulis thing with the one I made last weekend.

Great thanks for all the ideas. I went with the cheesecake and it turned out really well - the best cheesecake I've ever made in fact! I will have to try some other recipes with the maitorahka :)

Every now and then quarks appear in the news, usually as a topic of interest to nuclear physicists.

So, when I saw this thread's topic I was wondering just what kind of quark recipes there could be.

I had never heard of a quark as something which could be eaten, but now I have, thank you.
