Fingerpori double-takes pt II
Re: Fingerpori double-takes pt II
Easy one...
Re: Fingerpori double-takes pt II
...I suppose this isn't too difficult either
Re: Fingerpori double-takes pt II
I'm having a bit of trouble with the word, Menetkös..... I think it means, "Are you sure you are going?".... but I don't really get the joke...and why is he throwing his slipper....
Re: Fingerpori double-takes pt II
That’s what it nominally means, yes... but when said with an angry tone of voice it’s no longer a question. The meaning morphs into something like: “Now buzz off / get lost, will you!(?)”Rob A. wrote:I'm having a bit of trouble with the word, Menetkös..... I think it means, "Are you sure you are going?"
Menetkös siitä! is a common idiom. (siitä = “from there”, “from the position/location where you’re currently standing”)
“Drive somebody home” (in your car or something) vs “drive somebody off/away and back to their home”.Rob A. wrote:but I don't really get the joke...and why is he throwing his slipper.... :?

The joke is the dual etendre of the word "drive"...in English would be "I can give you a lift" and the last picture the old guy carrying him.

säkki = “sack”... rather than “bag”Pursuivant wrote:säe => säkeissä

saatanallinen = literally “satanic” but the word can also be used for (rude) emphasis... in which case it could mean something like “humongous”, “unwieldy”, “outrageous”, depending on the subject matter. Compare to helvetillinen, “hellish” or jumalaton, “godless”, which are often used the same way.

Shades of Buster Gonad and his unfeasibly large testicles there...Jukka Aho wrote:saatanallinen = literally “satanic” but the word can also be used for (rude) emphasis... in which case it could mean something like “humongous”, “unwieldy”, “outrageous”, depending on the subject matter.
