Kitchen equipment shop in Helsinki
Does anyone know the name of the kitchen equipment shop in Helsinki - it's either the laneway next to Stockmann or the next one along. We were there over 6mths ago and I really want to either visit their website or phone them to see if they have what I need. They are a specialist store selling pots, pans, knives, kitchen utensils etc.

Not so sure about the mind part - the last time someone called me "great" the next word in the sentence was "pillock"Upphew wrote:![]()

Thanks for the links I'm checking them out now. We're looking for a wok. In that store soon after we arrived we found an really nice stainless steel wok there. We ended up buying one from Ikea but all the non-stick coating is coming off in our food which is highly toxic. We've thrown it in the bin. But since we used the wok nearly every night we thought we should invest in a high quality stainless steel one that won't suffer the same fate.

Kokkipuoti is the place kiitos! We'll check it out tomorrow. If anyone knows where else you can find a good stainless steel wok (without the non-stick coating) please let us know. I wonder if any of the ethnic shops in Hakkaniemi would have them? and it they do, would they be decent quality - something that will last?

I wonder what coating used in cookware is highly toxic? Somehow the whole idea of highly toxic stuff used in cooking reminds me of: http://www.dhmo.org/Cloudberry wrote:We ended up buying one from Ikea but all the non-stick coating is coming off in our food which is highly toxic.

Hi!
Finnish manufacturer OPA has a high-quality WOK pan. It's coated, but not with Teflon, but a ceramic coating. You can use steel utesils with it.

(The website is in Finnish, but paste URL in Google Translate and it gives you an idea of the contents)
They have their Helsinki outlet in Arabia-keskus: http://www.opa.fi/index.php?option=com_ ... &Itemid=40

With sufficient thrust, pigs fly just fine.

Anyway - not a good idea to buy pans from IKEA... they may be cheap, but cheap is not always sensible, especially if (and when) they need to be replaced often. The ceramic one that Keravalainen mentioned seems an interesting option.
Re: Kitchen equipment shop in Helsinki
Still wouldn't use metallic thingamajigs with that... I don't think that it is the teflon that gives up first with the cheap pots and pans, but the flimsy construction combined with user error that causes them to overheat and burn the coating or warp the base. I used to cool popcorn pot afterwards with cold water and now that pot has cone shaped base.sammy wrote:The ceramic one that Keravalainen mentioned seems an interesting option.

The IKEA pans are the pits (literally)
They did have a giant StStl wok with holes that can be used on gas grill - but as it was €5 I believe it was a sell-out item.
The Tefal - Matador etc stuff is much better - but indeed they also start to fall apart. I did get a couple non-stick kitchen Aids which seem to be holding up. And there's a new one Swiss Diamond - but prices are as if they were Diamonds.
