Re: Finnish birth certificate
We don´t have birth certificates in Finland. At least I don´t. Neither do my kids.

From the maistraatti, you call the number for virkatodistukset. You get a "draft of records" from the population system, they have one in English, then you ask, as they give it for a reason, ask to write as the reason "birth certificate for authorities". Costs 4,50 - a bit more if notarized, but looks all impressive and if someone asks for the paper that doesnt exist... got to use it once or twice so far, works wonders
And no, I never have hada birth certificate either. I have a paper that my mom had a live boy and then I have a fancy card with jebus and curly scribbles that I was baptized.

Especially those who want to give it to local embassy for registration of a new citizen, should ask in advance what the embassy staff wants (as they should now what Finnish authorities can supply). Hospital can also give some sort of paper (at least if you ask for it at time), but it is not at all fancy or even very official looking.
