GETTING ENGAGED. I have questions about Finnish customs.HELP

Post by SailorSmitty » Fri Apr 27, 2012 12:43 am

I will be getting engaged to my beautiful Finnish girlfriend soon. I want to do it in accordance with Finnish standardsengagementyou and and customs. I read somewhere that in Finland traditionally when you propose, you do so with a plain prescious metal band which you both wear to signify engagement and then present a daimond ring at the wedding, i.e. reversed from what I always have known to be how to go about engagement and proposal. I don't readily believe anything I read off of a magazines website. Might one of you wonderful Finns lend your expertise? I would really appreciate it :)

Kihlasormus = engagement ring
Vihkisormus = wedding ring

Do a google search, check the image search and compare results.

Yes, and in think most cases that is still just a plain golden ring.

I'm sure this question must be addressed by ISO 26000 or something like that, but I can't seem to find anything at the moment. :wink:
As he persisted, I was obliged to tootle him gently at first and then, seeing no improvement, to trumpet him vigorously with my horn.

Just remember, the wife is always right. Even when she isn't, she is. :ochesey:

And often you go together to buy the engagement rings. You pay for her ring, she pays for yours.
