I just volunteered my services as an interpret or for the Finnish speed skating team here at the world cup. It will be interesting to see how well I remember my Finnish. I might take all week off from work to do stuff with these guys. This could be a lot of fun!

Have you done any interpretation work before? It's quite demanding. Although helping a sports team doesn't sound as stressful as interpreting business negotiations. Or peace negotiations 8)

Have fun!

Try to sell the events to the listeners like you would a NASCAR race, inch by inch and position by position.

So what language you are interpreting to? Finnish-Mongolian?

I've been an interpreter for the Finnish Biathlon team several times. I don't suppose this will be much different. The inches have to be converted to centimeters but the position is always the same.:-)

I would expect the Koskela brothers to manage quite well in English but I have no idea of what kind of a team they travel with.

You can read a moderately interesting article about their endeavors here:
It’s the exact same article but published via two different online editions of Helsingin Sanomat: one of them a rigid replica of the physical paper, comparable to a PDF, and the other one a more fluid version (thought to be) better-geared for tablets and web browsers. Hopefully at least one of the links will work for you. (They’re both behind the HS.fi paywall, which works in mysterious ways, but should allow reading a limited amount of content without paying for it. Also, the first link points to the digital replica of the first-ever tabloid issue of the paper which was [at least originally] made available to the public free of charge in an attempt to generate more interest in the new format.)
