Daycare/preschool in Toolo area

Post by chiakijohnson » Tue Apr 16, 2013 9:24 pm

Hello,

We currently live in Texas, U.S.A., but we are moving to Helsinki for 14 months starting from June 4th. We are looking for a good daycare/preschool in toolo area for our two daughters. Their birth date is September 7th, 2008 (4 years old), and March 20th, 2011 (2 years old). I did some research on my own and found http://www.play-learn.fi/site/ and http://www.helsinkienglishmontessori.com/. Is there any other school that you might recommend?

Hi,

We are currently in Töölö and have 4 and 6 year daughters who are on a waiting list since last three months for public daycare, so I would recommend going with private. The maximum wait in public daycare is 4 months (but in Töölö area I guess you are almost waiting for this max period). Also as you're here only for 14 months then better to go to an English daycare.

There is one nearby called Finnish-American daycare (another in Ruolahti as well). They are expensive but if you are covered under Kela (or if your employer is paying) then it should be ok. You can also check here all the information and make application directly: http://www.hel.fi/hki/sosv/en/Child+Day+Care

I'd strongly recommend calling them beforehand and booking a place as they get quite busy. Good luck.

Thank you so much for your replies. I am so sorry for the late response. We are now in Helsinki, and our children love their school. Thank you so much for your help. If you happen to know a good child-care service for babysitters, I would appreciate to have the information. I learned MLL is a good one to search. Is there anything else? How do people find babysitters in Finland?
