There are both municipal (public) kindergartens (they are called päiväkoti) and also private ones in Finland. They are not free but if you are a resident of Finland you can get some reduction on the fees at the public day care centres.
Some of the private kindergartens are English-speaking which might be a better choice if you know that you are not going to live in Finland permanently. If you are planning to stay here then it is better to put your child into a Finnish päiväkoti. They usually take children from 3-7 yrs of age. Primary school starts in the year the child has his/her 7th birthday.
If you know which town you are going to live in, you can get more info on their website. eg for Espoo: http://www.espoo.fi/en-US/Childcare_and ... re_Centres

You will have to apply for a place and you might have to wait a long time. Waiting lists vary from one city to another. There are not many kindergartens that take children under 3 years old. When you register (are you from inside the EU? Do you have a residence permit?) in Finland, you will get a number : henkilötunnus. You need this number in order to apply for a day care place. This number is your official ID number and you will need it for almost everything.

Just email them and ask. The prices vary. I have no idea what the current rates are as my kids are much older now. But some private kindergartens claim the state subsidy for you which takes the price down a bit.
Here is one in Espoo: http://www.carouselnursery.fi/admissions/
(It is an English-speaking private day care centre. Maybe the Finnish day care places are a bit cheaper).

Prices for private kindergarten vary. It also depends on the age of your child. Under 3's require different ratio so tend to be a bit more expensive. What you need to check is yr eligibility for Kela support. Depending on where you would be living, they cover around 40-50% of Childcare costs as a basic help. You can ask for more depending on your income.
