Hey there,
I have a dual nationality.
In the past I received a recruitment letter for the Finnish MIlitary. At the time of receiving that letter, I was already doing the military service in my home country so I replied getting an exemption from the Finnish Military.
Now I am making second thoughts about it and I want to do it in order to spend some time in FInland, learn the language etc (Since I dont speak FInnish or Swedish). However, I am not sure if its possible to go even if I have been exempted once.
Furthermore, I would like to know, if it is possible, when you are recruited, can you choose the section you will be placed. WIll I be able for example to be recruited upon my choice and if so, are there any special forces?
Also do the soldiers in Finland get paid and how much ?

Have you read the conscript guide at mil.fi? I haven't but I have a hunch that most of your questions are answered there. You probably would be eligible, but getting to any special forces (paratroopers or frogman comes to my mind) will be hard anyway, dunno how much the language will play on that.Jokoko wrote:Hey there,

You don't get into spec. forces or such during conscription afaik.
Only "pro" soldiers tend to be in the special depts.
As for the general army, i don't know how much fun it would be to be stuck with a bunch of 18-20 year old finnish boys when you don't speak any finnish....

They have special "voluntary application" for the specials like frogmen, paratroopers & such, you don't get assigned to those in the "regular" call-up, what happens is that you get assigned to wherever you might have some talent for or then not, you can make a special petition for some units, and then for the specials you have tests if you pass you get a new set of tickets... sometimes guys start and get their results and a transfer...
