Which mobile phone service?
Which mobile phone service?
Hello guys. As I will be studying now in helsinki so I will be needing a mobile phone service to stay in touch with people. So my question is which company or phone service is good/better?
I wont be making too many calls or messages, I mainly need it for the internet as in 3G or 4G. Because I use internet a lot. So can somebody recommend a good priced service or packages between 15 to 20 euros.
Thanks.

Re: Which mobile phone service?
You'll want prepaid. There are three operators, Sonera don't have uncapped plans, so it is either Saunalahti or DNA. Both have the same 16,90 price tag for data plan @ 21Mbit/s. With saunalahti it is special price for when you order it first time, after that it was more. Head to R-kioski to get your sim card.

Sorry anna if I wasnt able to convey my message properly. But by mobile internet I meant internet on my phone or you can say some data plan on my phone as in 3G or 4G.anna.g wrote:Phone & internet are 2 different things. In order to decide an internet plan, ask Elisa / DNA / Sonera for their plans and compare them to your needs.
And actually I wont be making any calls or messages, maybe 4 or 5 calls in a month. So I just need a service with a good data plan.

Cant I get a post-paid service with good price? Or is pre-paid a better option?Upphew wrote:You'll want prepaid. You can get a postpaid connection by paying a refundable security deposit of 5/6 hundred euros. Postpaids tend to be cheaper than prepaid . So if you have got some extra money go for the postpaid.
Don't take a contract where you are bound for one or two years. Nowadays they offer open contracts which you can cancel any time if you want to switch operator.
Personally I would suggest you not to buy a phone set on monthly installments. Here in Finland they are not much discounted as in the UK or the USA. you only make yourself bound paying for something which you will not feel worth paying after one year or so.

I disagree. Even if the installments are not discounted, nowadays they are usually interest free and not sim locked. Taking into account inflation and better balance in the bank account, I always recommend to people to buy for example Apple products from the operators with monthly payments. However, I doubt these contracts will be available to someone who has just arrived to the country.Honest wrote:Personally I would suggest you not to buy a phone set on monthly installments. At least DNA makes an exemption for data only plans since (with roaming disabled) it's impossible to rack up a large bill.anna.g wrote:Without a credit history in Finland, you won't be offered a contract. Which is why pre-paid is your only option.

A worker is trying to get a internet stick plan this month and saunalahti wants him to show 2 years of history in Finland before they let him sign upbetelgeuse wrote: However, I doubt these contracts will be available to someone who has just arrived to the country.

Re: Which mobile phone service?
Well I dont need a phone on contract or something like that. I just bought a new one. What I need is a good data plan whether pre paid or post paid.Honest wrote:Don't take a contract where you are bound for one or two years. Better if post-paid so I can just easily pay the bill at the end of the month.
Re: Which mobile phone service?
Yes I dont need the internet on my phone 24/7 but still it would be good to have a package of around 15 euro for a month.anna.g wrote:If you don't need 24/7 internet connection on your phone, then you can rely on the wifi connections.
Well I checked DNA and its offering some really good packages according to customer need.
So what do you think is DNA a good service provider?

visit the shops and ask them for plans based on pre-paymentsShazam wrote: What I need is a good data plan whether pre paid or post paid.

Re: Which mobile phone service?
If you are a student in any university, your local esn club (degree or exchange does not matter) will be handing out dna sim cards for free in first week of school. It is worth about 8 euro and pre-paid. I advice you to contact that club in your university.
Also i use dna 9 euro a month data connection. Quite enough for watching hd videos online and it is slowest available.

No usage limit for monthly payment. They have a lot of different speeds, just check one of their shops for info.
