SportyFeel - Lidl

Post by harryc » Sun Jan 25, 2015 11:33 am

It seems that for the longest time, Lidl has been putting an overwhelming amount of effort (eg their weekly magazine) on their SportyFeel line.

Frankly I haven't the faintest interest in the product for myself - but a glance over the ads seems to be telling me it is one of these over-priced, adulterated, hyped, faddy products.

I would like to know, though, if is something we 'Lidl food buyers' should be hoping succeeds - if Lidl can make money out of that stuff - maybe it will keep the food prices down. :D

On the other hand - if is the phony stuff that I think it is - then someone doing an exposé might harm the credibility of the whole company and then we have to go back to K/S for food. :(

Well... there's a growing market for fitness products in Finland as more and more people are joining the gyms. Lidl is simply trying to tap into the market trend. I don't remember how things were before but nowadays I see sporting clothes and gadgets on sales at Lidl all the time, excluding that particular brand products.

OK - understand that. It's just that this SportyFeel campaign has SO OVERTAKEN their advertising, I've just been wondering if anyone else had reactions.

I don't think it would be much of a guess, but the margin must be pretty high.

This is the time to make money on these products. A lot of people, many of them with good jobs but inactive life style , make a new year resolution to exercise or play some sports. First thing they do is to go and buy new equipment and sports clothes. Mostly they become useless within weeks as.the year gets a little older.

Not wishing to use myself - but does anyone have any comments on whether these are honest and reasonably priced items? Mostly interested in wondering what kind of company I'm giving so much food money to.

I must say I am suspicious about a lot of the Lidl non-food products - awhen they started 10+ years ago here they also broke a lot of the K-S-Anttila hold on a number of things - since then I've found their 'house' brands are really not all that good - Ernesto - Parkside - etc. And I've done much better at Biltema and Clas Ohlson (though I made out like a bandit for a couple of years with the Amazon UK free shipping). I should say some of Lidl's art and hobby sets for kids have been more than OK.

At least the protein bars were decently priced compared to other brick and mortar stores. I wouldn't say cheap and worth the trip alone, but certainly worth buying if you are already there and need some.

Lidl makes the closest thing to a sausage in Finland. Apart from hobbiest sausage makers producing them in their spare bedroom.

Which ones in particular?

What about the 'raw' sausage?

I'm suspicious of their non-food items, except if the item has commonly available brand or is "simple enough" (like children's toy, made of solid wood). The groceries are a highly welcome alternative to the duopoly.

SportyFeel I do not know, but presumably the advertising is made mostly for the benefit of the chain and less of that particular product line.

Nothing is more sausage than HK Sininen. That is the one everything is compared to and that nothing can beat. Amen.

edit. you want funny foreign sausage that is still edible? You just call HK Sininen HööKöö Blöö and that does the job.

HK Sininen (like some other cheap sausages) includes something really quite unpleasant.
Tuotteen ainesosat:
suomalainen liha (porsas, nauta), vesi, perunajauho, suomalainen koneellisesti erotettu porsaanliha, kamara, stabilointiaineet (muunnettu tärkkelys, E450), lisätty suola (1,7 %), dekstroosi, lihaproteiini, perunakuitu, mausteet (mm. valko- ja mustapippuri, inkivääri, korianteri), aromit (mm. paprika), arominvahvenne (E621), hapettumisenestoaine (askorbiinihappo), säilöntäaine (E250). Lihapitoisuus 43 %. Liha ja lihaan verrattavat valmistusaineet yhteensä 54 %.
koneellisesti erotettu porsaanliha = mechanically separated meat

My (qualified) opinion is that anyone who puts this stuff into their kids mouths should hang their heads in shame.

I am _very_ picky about foods that I put to my mouth. You should see how I eat proper joulukinkku. There are probably as much left over as stuff that I eat. So if they can make inedible (for me) food to edible I tip my hat and chew on.

Anyone who is an adult who understands what they're eating is of course free to make their own choice. My gripe is with parents who put this carp in their kids mouths.

I agree, HK blue is the best-tasting Finnish sausage there is. :D However this is the only Finnish sausage I was fed as a child....

Many bad habits are formed early on in life, hence the responsibility of parents not to put this dirt in their kids' mouths. :D
